Kerry had a one-year history of heroin use before undergoing a straightforward community detoxification with lofexidine and symptomatic medication. She was keen to go on naltrexone, and we supervised the first half-tablet dose, eight days after her last use of heroin. Her mother had helped her through the detoxification at home, and was also going to make sure that Kerry had her naltrexone each day. They were given a patient information leaflet, and a medical warning card for Kerry to carry with her at all times. [Pg.77]

There is, of course, no way of classifying the infinite permutations and combinations of visionary elements. The cortex contains file-cards for billions of images from the history of the person, of the race, and of living forms. Any of these, at the rate of a hundred million per second (according to neuro-physiologists), can flood into awareness. Bobbing around in this brilliant, symphonic sea of imagery is the remnant of the conceptual mind. [Pg.21]

In use tests represent a very valuable tool in the assessment armory. Many personal care products are designed for frequent skin contact, often with very sensitive areas of skin (e.g., the face or underarm). Materials such as face creams and deodorants, etc. must therefore be evaluated for their irritation potential to ensure that they are safe for normal use. A use or exaggerated use test provides data on which a safety assessment can be made. A test material is compared with a control, usually a material of similar formulation that is already marketed, and has an acceptable market history. The frequency of exposure may be exaggerated to maximize the sensitivity of the test. For the duration of the test, panellists are provided with test and control materials and a treatment card to record the daily use of each material. The materials issued at the start of the test are weighed before and after the test, so that the amount of material used can be calculated. [Pg.506]

The Third Supplement of Beilstein may be the last ever published in book form. Writing on the occasion of the 75-year history of this treatise, its editor, Friedrich Richter, suggests that other forms of publication may be more appropriate in the future (punched cards, etc.), because of time lag in publication and other reasons (20). [Pg.139]

The patents relevant to the subject are themselves a source of additional pertinent subclass numbers. One finds the classification of the patents which were cited during the Patent Office prosecution, again by use of the classification card file. The cited patents are listed on recent United States patents and, in the case of earlier patents, can be obtained from the file histories. [Pg.205]

Modem technology should help. For example, pharmacists are developing databases that help them to identify dmg interactions. In the future, the medical history of a patient could be added to a card which could be used by a pharmacist to ensure that the patient s prescribed medicine is appropriate. [Pg.542]
