Overview. Figure 10 shows, in simplified form, the activities, inputs and outputs involved in running HSPF, from a typical user s point of view. The first phase involves copying input time series, such as meteorological data, from sequential files (cards, tape, disc) to the Time Series Store (TSS). This is sometimes done in a single run but in most practical situations, where data have to be gathered from diverse sources and gaps have to be patched, several runs are made. 

Open the metal sandwich. Inside will be a file card with a KBr window in it, just like in the Mini-Press. 

Sponsors are required to submit copies of promotional materials, for example, journal advertisements, detail pieces such as file cards, etc. to FDA at the time of initial dissemination. This means that the sponsor is to submit them to FDA simultaneously with the use of that piece or program. It is also possible for companies to engage FDA in review of proposed programs or advertisements, in order to gain feedback on acceptability. This is particularly important for broadcast advertisements aimed at consumers, such as those viewed on television. If promotional materials are deemed to be violative by FDA, for example, if they are false and misleading, a sponsor must withdraw the advertisements and in some cases undertake new campaigns to correct the objectionable statements.

There is, of course, no way of classifying the infinite permutations and combinations of visionary elements. The cortex contains file-cards for billions of images from the history of the person, of the race, and of living forms. Any of these, at the rate of a hundred million per second (according to neuro-physiologists), can flood into awareness. Bobbing around in this brilliant, symphonic sea of imagery is the remnant of the conceptual mind. 

Thermogravimetric analysis of I showed a two-step weight loss, the first loss corresponding to the loss of ammonia, amine and HF in the range 130-400 °C (obs. = 32.6%, calc. = 33.6%). The second weight loss occurs in the 460-850 °C range (obs. = 31%, calc. = 28%). The end product was found to be Mn304 (JCPDS file card PDF 00-001-1127).

At the highest temperature studied (1100 °C), the major phase was cristobalite, followed by spinel and anorthite. There was slight evidence for the continued presence of minor magnesium aluminum silicate. The strongest reflection for this minor component was at 8.48 A, a diagnostic reflection for indialite ([Mg2Al4Si5018], Powder Diflraction File card 13-293), but here again, the exact nature of this phase is uncertain. 

These procedures serve a number of purposes in addition to maintaining the files. For example, the selections made in Chemical Abstracts are checked for completeness of coverage both at Mellon Institute and at Gulf Research, and a mimeographed bulletin is prepared for each issue it contains all the abstracts considered by the selectors to be of interest to Gulf Research personnel. This bulletin, prepared by the Information Section, is so arranged that individual abstracts can be clipped from it, pasted on file cards, and added to each man s personal file. The patent abstracts are published monthly in a mimeographed bulletin put out by the Patent Section. Thus, the entire technical personnel of the company is kept abreast of current developments in the field, and each man may build a personal file to suit his particular needs. 

When a notice of compliance or a supplementary notice of compliance has been issued, the manufacturer has to submit all labels, package inserts, brochures and file cards that are intended to be used with the new drug before it can be sold. 

Again the smaller file cards (or the quart A4 s) for the literature consulted during the research. This can of course. be extended to a permanent file on literature. To be given are (Examples 10—13) ... 

We observe a very weak line with d = 2.18 A, not listed on the file card. Calculation by Eq. (10-1) shows that this line is a 220 reflection of Cu KP radiation not removed by the filter. (We would then expect that the even stronger 200 reflection would also produce a Kfi line. But calculation shows that this KP line falls on the 111 Kol line and is therefore not seen separately.)... 

Two high-angle lines (d = 0.79 and 0.78 A) are observed but are not listed on the file card. However, these can be indexed as 711-551 and 640 lines, which are the next expected lines after 444 in the FCC sequence. 

If you prefer to use file cards with a brief description of each incident, by all means do so. When working with large amounts of documentary footage, old time film editors often resorted to this technique as an aid in finding a structure for their material.

ChemBase reaction/structure searching to streamline traditional file card methods ... 

This use of a ChemBase reaction database containing proprietary hydrogenation information is a good example of how a ChemBase reaction database can replace a traditional file card system. The ChemBase database is more easily accessed and can be duplicated for other users. 

The projected, numerical factual database BEILSTEIN-ONLINE represents a natural extension of the Beilstein Handbook of Organic Chemistry which has been published for more than 100 years in more than 300 volumes. The Handbook together with the structure file cards of the literature period 1960-1980 (E-V Period) contain factual and structural information on more than 4 million compounds. The computer representation of organic chemical structures therefore constitutes the centre part of the database design. The chemical structure is described in a post-topological format. Not only constitutional information is included but also a complete stereochemical representation. Bond orders are replaced by electronic information. This allows a much more global and unique representation of tautomers. This paper gives an overview not only of the data structure of chemical compounds but also of its associated physical numerical data and keywords. 

The data bases mentioned so far are readily available to the public. The Federal government alone has over 220 chemical data files in various agencies and in different forms, from file cards to computer files. Many of these are not open to the public, and those that are usually require a formal request for a data-base search. Often, access is limited to those employed in government or as contract researchers for the agency.

Every patient was studied by a special case history record and thorough physical examination. Blood pressure was measured at least twice under rest conditions. Creatinine and uric acid clearance in samples of 2A-hour urine was done after a low purine diet had been administered for three previous days and all drug had been withdrawn. X-ray examination of joins was also carried out. Results were assembled in a special filing card and statistically analyzed. 

Obtain the IR spectrum of caffeine (use four scans with FT instruments). Compare your data with an authentic spectrum of caffeine and with the data given in Experiment [1 IB]. Your sample may be saved by taping it to a file card with your name, and stored by your instructor in a desiccator. If, later in the year, you isolate caffeine from its natural source (Experiment [IIB]), you will be able to compare the material you have extracted and purified from the plant with your own authentic reference spectrum.
