Over 80 per cent of member sites now operate health, safety and environmental management systems. Self assessment against the Association s systems is now something all of our members carry out. A small number of sites also have these systems verified by external organisations our aim is to increase the level of external verification.34... [Pg.278]

Will this redesign affect the process safety implementation and effectiveness of the facility process safety program or specifically any of its elements as follows not already covered in the Health, Safety, and Environmental Management System ... [Pg.175]

Emissions are minimised by adequate operation, by selecting effective leak free equipment, by installing VCM monitoring systems and by routine inspeetion to check the integrity of all relevant seals. Detection and repair programmes are part of the health, safety and environmental management systems of the plants. These actions are also necessary to achieve the low exposure level required to protect the health of plant staff. [Pg.267]

PSSRs are an integral part of all process safety management (PSM) regulations. In the United States, the PSSR requirements from Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are very similar. Offshore facilities are regulated by the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) in their Safety and Environmental Management Systems (SEMS) rule. They use the term PSR. [Pg.392]

Finding 5. Some of the safety and environmental management system (SEMS) requirements for the offshore oil and gas industry would be appropriate for offshore wind farm worker health and safety and could be adapted to regulations for offshore wind installations. However, the overall risk to the health and safety of workers and to the environment associated with an offshore oil and gas platform is greater than that associated with an offshore wind turbine. [Pg.142]

Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA) or the Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS), rules do not require that companies submit an acmal report. Still, the management of those facilities needs internal reports to advise them on the progress that they are making. [Pg.36]

Draft Preliminary Report to the EPA, Institute of Safety and Systems Management, University of Southern California, January 11, 1986. [Pg.167]

There are some considerations that are supra to the individual elements in safety management systems. 1 have concluded that most safety, health, and environmental management system audits, intended to measure the quahty of hazards management in place, are deficient in purpose and content. 1 include in that observation the guidehnes used for the audits 1 drafted for individual client needs, the many audit reports 1 reviewed, and a study of several audit systems. [Pg.402]

To begin with, I suggest that safety professionals agree on a definition of a safety, health, and environmental management system audit. Several writers have provided definitions and addressed what information the audit should provide. Their views differ. [Pg.403]

Everyone has a duty of care, but not everyone is a duty holder. The regulations recognize the amount of control that an individual might exercise over the whole electrical installation. The person who exercises control over the whole systems, equipment and conductors and is the electrical company s representative onsite, is the duty holder. He might be a supervisor or manager, but he will have a duty of care on behalf of his employer for the electrical, health, safety and environmental issues on that site. [Pg.7]

Changes, as appropriate, should be made in the written safety, health, and environmental management system, using the following model shown in Figure 8.1. [Pg.169]

An organization s culture consists of its values, beliefs, legends, rituals, mission, goals, performance measures, and its sense of responsibility to its employees, to its customers, and to its community, 1 of which are translated into a system of expected performance. An organization s culture determines the probability of success of a safety, health, and environmental management system. All that takes place or doesn t take place in that system is a direct reflection of the organization s culture. [Pg.514]

Quality Systems and Environmental Management Systems require the same attifede to achieving and maintaining standards and it is common practice to integrate the two. This can beneficially be extended to Health and Safety Management Systems (OHSAS 18001). This approach has a... [Pg.954]
