Effect of selectivity

Elements that can dissolve in copper, such as zinc, tin, and nickel for example, increase annealed strength by varying amounts depending on the element and the quantity in solution. The effect of selected solution hardening elements on tensile properties of annealed copper aUoys is iUustrated by the data in Table 4, where the yield strength is the stress at 0.2% offset strain in a tensile test. [Pg.219]

Release of SP from neurons in the AP, NTS and dorsal vagal motor nucleus may play a role in vomiting induced by cytotoxics. Based on the relative effectiveness of selective antagonists of 5-HT3 receptors and NKi receptors against acute and delayed phases of cisplatin-induced vomiting, it has been suggested that serotonin has a greater role in the acute phase whereas SP has the major role in the delayed phase. [Pg.460]

Kabanov and Zingel [352] have recently published a comprehensive review of studies of the effect of application of continuous or periodic electric fields on the reactant during thermal decomposition of a solid. They comment on the superficiality of most of the work discussed. The application of an electric field is contrasted with the effect of selected additives as a means of obtaining information on the mechanism of a decomposition reaction. Both may alter the concentration of free electrons in the solid, but the effect of the field is more apparent in the vicinity of the surface. An example of an investigation of the effect of an electric field on a reaction is to be found in the work of the Panafieu et al. [373] on KN3. [Pg.33]

The reaction was first tested with these substances as ligands but the organic molecule, in the absence of any added metal ion, proved to be the most enantioselective catalyst (library 1 19% ee vs. less than 13% ee for the best metal catalyst). We examined the effects of selective activation of histamine Hj receptors on coronary hemodynamics in two groups patients with atypical chest pain and normal coronary arteries, and patients with vasospastic angina [48]. Selective Hj receptor stimulation was achieved by infusing histamine intravenously (0.5 pg/kg/min) for 5 min after pretreatment with cimetidine to antagonize the H2 receptors. Heart rate was kept constant (100 beats/min) by coronary sinus pacing. [Pg.104]

According to these equations, the effect of selectively perturbing the spin states of spins i and j is to isolate the cross-relaxation paths common to these two spins. Combining Eqs. 15 and 19, the individual cross-relaxation terms are readily determined from single-selective and double-selective relaxation-rate measurements, that is. [Pg.134]

Effectiveness of selective adsorption of phenanthrene in Triton X-100 solution depends on surface area, pore size distribution, and surface chemical properties of adsorbents. Since the micellar structure is not rigid, the monomer enters the pores and is adsorbed on the internal surfaces. The size of a monomer of Triton X-100 (27 A) is larger than phenanthrene (11.8 A) [4]. Therefore, only phenanthrene enters micropores with width between 11.8 A and 27 A. Table 1 shows that the area only for phenanthrene adsorption is the highest for 20 40 mesh. From XPS results, the carbon content on the surfaces was increased with decreasing particle size. Thus, 20 40 mesh activated carbon is more beneficial for selective adsorption of phenanthrene compared to Triton X-100. [Pg.462]

The goal of this chapter is to review recent morphologic studies in which current anatomic me ods have been used to characterize the neurotoxic effects of psychoactive amphetamine derivatives. Several strategies combining anatomic with biochemical data have been employed to analyze the effects of selected drugs in this class. These studies show that psychoactive drugs that have selective neurotoxic effects can be useful experimental tools to study the neural mechanisms of elusive brain functions such as affective state control and perceptual integration. [Pg.270]

Isotonic muscle contraction was used to measure the effects of selected nematode FaRPs on the body-wall muscle of H. contortus. AF2 was found to have inhibitory effects on muscle activity and inhibited acetylcholine (ACh) -induced contractions in the worm whereas AF8 had excitatory effects on the muscle and enhanced ACh-induced contractions (Marks et al., 1999a). There were obvious differences in the methodologies used to evaluate the effects of these peptides on Haemonchus muscle compared with those used to examine these peptide effects on Ascaris. How comparable the results are has yet to be determined. [Pg.440]
