A preliminary report on rauwolscine by Chakravarti indicates that it is a cardiovascular depressant, shows hypotensive action and a relatively high toxicity. Koepfli s rauwolfine produces a fall in blood pressure, and stimulation of respiration in frogs it has a curare-like action. The rauwolfine of van Itallie and Steenhauer has been examined by Hartog and by de Boer, especially in regard to its cardiac action. According to Raymond-Hamet, it reverses the action of adrenaline.

In a preliminary report (2), Fe atoms were reacted with O2, leading to formation of FeiO ), a cyclic isosceles (C2v) species, as suggested by mixed isotope experiments. Reaction of Fe atoms with N2O resulted in formation of FeO. A feature at 887 cm, assigned to a Fe/Nj complex, is probably erroneous, and may be an iron nitride species. In the same triad, the MCD spectrum of matrix-entrapped OSO4 was studied (46). The spectrum was found to be similar to that of Mn04 in a solid lattice, and was assigned accordingly.

The three known crystal structures of molybdopterin-containing enzymes are from members of the first two families the aldehyde oxido-reductase from D. gigas (MOP) belongs to the xanthine oxidase family (199, 200), whereas the DMSO reductases from Rhodobacter (R.) cap-sulatus (201) and from/ , sphaeroides (202) and the formate dehydrogenase from E. coli (203) are all members of the second family of enzymes. There is a preliminary report of the X-ray structure for enzymes of the sulfite oxidase family (204).

Although attempts have been made to study this reaction using ThC as an indicator, the stability of ThC has restricted these investigations. In 1948 the production of 204,206jj enabled more detailed studies to be made by Harbottle and Dodson and by Prestwood and Wahl. B. Nicotinamide and Flavin Coenzymes.—High-frequency (220 MHz) H n.m.r. spectroscopy shows that there are differences in conformation between oxidized and reduced pyridine coenzymes. A preliminary report on the P n.m.r. spectra of NAD+ and NADH confirms these observations, as the spectrum of NAD+ consists of an AB quartet while there is only a single resonance discernible in the spectrum of NADH. 

There have been some preliminary reports of nitrosamines being found in normal humans, in blood (, 35), and in urine (36). The precise origin of these substances, if their presence is confirmed, is not fully understood at this time. 

The importance of the degree of esterification (%DE) to the gelation properties of pectins makes it desirable to obtain a fast and robust method to determine (predict) the %DE in pectin powders. Vibrational spectroscopy is a good candidate for the development of such fast methods as spectrometers and quantitative software algorithms (chemometric methods) becomes more reliable and sophisticated. Present poster is a preliminary report on the quantitative performance of different instrumentations, spectral regions, sampling techniques and software algorithms developed within the area of chemometrics. 

In a preliminary report, Ross et al. [40] used affinity chromatography to identify a putative bovine renal brush border Na /H exchanger. Brush border membranes were solubilized with Triton X-100 and chromatographed sequentially over lentil lectin Sepharose 4B and 5-(A-benzyl-iV-ethyl)amiloride coupled to epoxy-activated Sepharose 6B. The eluant contained 178- and 146-kDa proteins that were susceptible to Endo-F. Moreover, the eluants reacted on dot blot immunoassays with antisera to a 20-amino acid peptide of a human Na /H exchanger vide infra). The relationship between these proteins and the 66-kDa protein previously identified by the same investigators using amiloride photolabeling is presently unclear.

Depletion of the antioxidant capacity of LDL is an early event in the oxidation process. The main antioxidant in LDL is a-tocopherol, with smaller quantities of 0-carotene and 7-tocopherol also present.
