Every laboratory worker should observe the following rules  [Pg.507]

Know the safety rules and procedures that apply to the work being performed. Determine the potential hazards (e.g., physical, chemical, biologic) and appropriate safety precautions before beginning any new operation. [Pg.507]

Know the types of protective apparel available and use the proper type for each job. [Pg.507]

Know the location of the safety equipment in the area, as well as how to use it and how to obtain additional help in an emergency. Be familiar with emergency and first aid procedures. [Pg.507]

Be alert to unsafe conditions and actions, and call attention to them so that corrections can be made as soon as possible. [Pg.507]

Such repositioning inevitably means reduced production volume, and for the first time this century production in the last decade has been below that a decade earUer (Eig. 9). Most capacity reductions have been in North America and especiaUy eastern Europe. This has been offset in part by capacity increases in the Ear East. Rayon is no longer a significant component of carpets, and has lost the disposable diaper coverstock business to cheaper and more easUy processed polypropylene. It has, however, gained share in health and hygiene products and is now a principal component of tampons worldwide. [Pg.354]

The pesticide storage situation in the 1960-70s was typical of what was found in Uzbekistan only 40% of 1082 storehouses met health and hygiene requirements [A62]. Towards the end of the 1980s, only 75% of the pesticides used in the USSR were provided with storehouses [1]. A significant number of the chemical substance storehouses (20% in Russia, 23% in Ukraine) did not meet elementary health requirements. In Azerbaijan, there were no specialized storehouses for pesticides at all - these chemicals were being stored together with mineral fertilizers [19]. From that time on, very little has changed. [Pg.26]

Thus it is significant that for such si/m-triazine herbicides as simazine, atrazine, etc., the health and hygiene MPC (toxicity to warm-blooded animals, including humans) and phytotoxic MPC (toxicity to plants) differ by more than an order of magnitude 0.2-0.5 mg/kg for warm-blooded animals, and 0.01 mg/ kg for plants [89]. Warm-blooded animals and arthropods have a difference in sensitivity to many pyretroids that can reach tens of thousands of times [90]. [Pg.94]

The basic function of a cleanser is to promote health and hygiene of skin by removing excess dirt, sebum, and bacteria from skin and promoting exfoliation. However, as explained earlier, cleanser surfactants also interact with SC proteins and lipids, causing damage to the SC barrier, leading to a net loss in SC hydration. [Pg.407]

In accordance with the Statute of the State Inspectorate for Environmental Protection (SIEP), the Chief Inspector of SIEP plays the co-coordinative role within the State Environmental Monitoring Programme. The State Sanitary Inspectorate (SSI) is responsible for air quality assessment from the viewpoint of health and hygiene requirements. The authority responsible for official data on national emissions into air is the Department of Environmental Protection in the Ministry of Environmental Protection, Natural Resources and Forestry (MoE). Air quality monitoring data are used at national, voivodship (provincial) and local levels. [Pg.318]
