Basic function

Needless to say that within MATLAB we have all the algebraic, statistical functions predefined along with plotting capabilities. Before briefly commenting on the basics, it is interesting to point out the use of help within the command window. We use the help function followed by any built-in function and MATLAB returns a small tutorial on the use of that function, the arguments, and the options (i.e., try help ode45 ). [Pg.92]

Before starting any new calculation, we can use the command clear all in order to erase the workspace. [Pg.92]

MATLAB operations rely on matrices thus, the first topic is how to input vectors and matrices. A row vector is written using a = [all al2 al3] with the elements separated by spaces or commas. Instead, for entering a column vector, we can either use the transpose function applied to a row vector a or directly with a = [all a21 a31] separating the rows with semicolons. [Pg.92]

Inhibition of platelets has become common as a method of controlling thrombosis under both chronic d acute situations. The major target structure for inhibition has been GPIIb- [Pg.149]

The large number of copies of GPIb-V -DC on Ae platelet surfece is certainly a fector in Ae role of this complex in irmnunological disorders. As mentioned above varioits polymorphisms can Ik involved in Ae development of alloantiboAes after blood or [Pg.150]

This disorder is caused by defects in one of the subunits leading to a molecule which does not integrate into the plasma membrane directly or which does not fold correctly and which is therefore degraded. Mutations leading to BSS have been detected in all of the subunits with the exception of GPV. Although this may merely mean that mutations in GPV have simply not been detected, another possible interpretation is, that, while the expression of the other subunits are necessary for the expression of GPV, GPV expression may not be necessary for the expression of the rest of the complex. The types of mutations that have been detected so fer M into a number of categories. Several mutations in GPIba are the type that lead to a frameshift and to a nonsense or stop codon before the transmembrane domain is translated, with the result that this subunit does not become embedded in the membrane and is expressed as a soluble protein (87, 88). Recently, [Pg.151]

Whether onshore or offshore drilling is carried out, the basic drilling system employed in both cases will be the rotary rig (Fig. 3.7) and the following summarises the basic functions and parts of such a unit. Three basic functions are carried out during rotary drilling operations ... [Pg.35]

The basic function of the JME Editor is to allow the creation and modification of molecules and reactions directly within a web page. The editor has all the standard chemical drawing and editing capabilities, mduding a rich set of keyboard shortcuts for adding common structural fragments easily (Figure 2-130). [Pg.144]

Catalysts and Promoters. The function of catalysts in LPO is not weU understood. Perhaps they are not really catalysts in the classical sense because they do not necessarily speed up the reaction (25). They do seem to be able to alter relative rates and thereby affect product distributions, and they can shorten induction periods. The basic function in shortening induction periods appears to be the decomposition of peroxides to generate radicals (eq. 33). [Pg.342]

Functionalization. Copolymers do not have the abiHty to exchange ions. Such properties are imparted by chemically bonding acidic or basic functional groups to the aromatic rings of styrenic copolymers, or by modifying the carboxyl groups of the acryHc copolymers. There does not appear to be a continuous functionalization process on a commercial scale. [Pg.373]

Carrier. The metal catalyst is generally dispersed on a high surface area carrier, ie, the carrier is given a washcoat of catalyst, such that very small (2—3 nm dia) precious metal crystaUites ate widely dispersed over the surface area, serving two basic functions. It maximizes the use of the cosdy precious metal, and provides a large surface area thereby increasing gas contact and associated catalytic reactions (18). [Pg.503]

The most successful and user-friendly approach, which is now adopted by virtually all commercial systems, is the fill-in-the-forms or table-driven process control languages (PCLs). The core of these languages is a number of basic functional blocks or software modules. AU modules are defined as database points. Using a module is analogous to calhng a subroutine in conventional programs. [Pg.773]

Analytical chemistry having an interdisciplinary character cannot set aside the attractive power and advances of supramolecular chemistry - the chemistry beyond the molecule or the chemistry of molecular assemblies and of intermolecular bonds as defined by Jean-Marie Lehn, who won the Nobel Prize in 1987. Recognition, reactivity, and transport, as well as self-assembly, self-organization and self-replication are the basic functional features of supramolecular species and chemistry. [Pg.417]

At this stage, an auto-synchronizing relay (Relay Code 25) is brought into the circuit. This relay is suitable for any size of a generating unit to be synchronized automatically with another unit or an infinite bus. The relay executes three basic functions ... [Pg.526]

After exiting tlie riser, tlie catalyst enters the reactor. In modern FCC operations, the reactor serves two basic functions as a disengaging space for the separation of catalyst and vapor, and as the housing for the reactor-internal cyclone. [Pg.145]

Tabic 9-1 is a handy little chart to visualize a vertical, single-cylinder compressor and the basic functions. The functions are normalized to keep them in a dimensionless form [4]. With the following set of equations, the X and y components of the inertia forces for a single cylinder can be calculated. For the derivation, the reader is referred to references [4,. 5], Figure 9-4 depicts the generalized stage to aid in the definitioii of terms... [Pg.380]

The basic function of lysis processes is to split molecules to permit further treatment. Hydrolysis is a chemical reaction in which water reacts with another substance. In the reaction, the water molecule is ionized while the other compound is split into ionic groups. Photolysis, another lysis process, breaks chemical bonds by irradiating a chemical with ultraviolet light. Catalysis uses a catalyst to achieve bond cleavage. [Pg.147]

A new solid phase method to synthesize libraries of compounds based on 1,2,5-thiadiazolidine heterocycle was developed (00TL(41)3161). Starting from the coupling of the protected aminoacid to the resine functionalized with p-alkoxybenzylalcohol as the linker, a series of sulfahydantoins 251 could be obtained. The method is applicable to aminoacids with a basic side chain, aliphatic aldehydes or aldehydes with basic functionalities. [Pg.107]

Considering functional group complementarity, other commodity monomers may also be used. Thus for templates containing acid groups, basic functional monomers are preferably chosen. The 2- or 4-vinylpyridines (VPY) are particularly well-suited for the imprinting of carboxylic acid templates and provide selectivities of the same... [Pg.171]

The brush-type (Pirkle-type) CSPs have been used predominantly under normal phase conditions in LC. The chiral selector typically incorporates tt-acidic and/or n-basic functionality, and the chiral interactions between the analyte and the CSP include dipole-dipole interactions, n-n interactions, hydrogen bonding, and steric hindrance. The concept of reciprocity has been used to facilitate the rational design of chiral selectors having the desired selectivity [45]. [Pg.307]
