Haul trucks

Joseph Stone was a long-haul truck driver, age twenty-two, who lived off-the-road in Sherbrooke, Quebec, Canada. His sleeper-truck was a Freightliner which pulled into Avondale Mills too late for unloading on January 5, 2005. Stone, also known as Rolling Stone, his CB radio name, drove for J.W. Express located in Deauville, Quebec. He called his girlfriend at home in Quebec to tell her he would be held up for the night, and then went to bed in his truck. Runaway chlorine gas killed Joseph Stone by inhalation while he slept on Leitner Street in Graniteville, and he may never have known what killed him. 

There are also some cases when a doctor s prescription is needed to obtain a stimulant in order to keep the person awake. Such cases include people with narcolepsy, who are extremely sleepy much of the day, and people who have jobs that require prolonged periods of wakefulness, such as soldiers in the military, long-haul truck drivers, and people who work night shifts or rotating shift-work schedules.

Two carrier mediums are considered for biomass water and oil. We review the inherent economics of truck vs pipeline transport, and then evaluate a case of field delivery of biomass by short-haul truck to a pipeline terminal. We also evaluate the impact of water and oil absorption by the biomass fuel. Finally, we discuss the prospects for pipeline transport of biomass. 

It could well be that various technologies will be used, according to the application. Cars, sport utility vehicles, vans, buses, and heavy trucks all have different needs, and these needs also vary by application (such as city-owned fleet trucks versus long-haul trucks). Some vehicle owners will place a premium on volume, others on weight, and others on cost or some other factor. 

The method of transporting ore from the mine to the beneficiation plant depends on ore characteristics, mining methods, and local infrastructure. Railroad transport has been practiced in Russia and Iraq. Haul trucks and belt conveyors are commonly used in China, Jordan, Mexico, Morocco, Russia, Syria, Tunisia, and the western United States. Slurry pipelines of 18-22 in. diameter, operating at less than 100 psig, are used exclusively in central Florida, north Florida, and eastern North Carolina. The pipelines may be extended up to 10 miles or more, by installing a series of centrifugal slurry pumps at 4000 ft intervals. 

Large short haul trucks and buses with diesel engines are considered for retrofitting.

Based on our first-pass APU application characterization and screening, hotel loads for long-haul heavy-duty truck / recreational vehicles, refrigerated trucks, police car and contractor utility trucks appear to be good candidates for further analysis. We will start detailed analysis of the long-haul truck cabin loads using petroleum diesel as a fuel. We will work with DOE to agree on the next 1 to 2 applications for detailed study as part of Task 3. 

Merloni had five plants spread throughout Italy. Each plant had a focused product line with focused plants enabled substantial scale economics as well as a consistent approach to choice of technologies and equipment. The products from each plant were shipped to a central warehouse in Fabriano. From Fabriano, products were shipped to a network of seventeen regional warehouses, using long-haul trucks. Each regional warehouse then shipped orders to retailers within twenty-four hours of receipt of the order. Merloni carried a total of 14,330 units in finished goods inventory at the warehouses.

Fuel cell auxiliary power units (APUs) for commercial trucks could also reduce energy use and emissions, since these vehicles must often run while idle to provide electricity for refrigeration, heaters and air conditioners, and sleeper compartment accessories. 

The transportation and delivery of the hot mix asphalts from the plant to the paver are carried out with haul trucks, which should be insulated and sheeted (use of tarps) to prevent heat loss and to protect the hot asphalt from bad weather conditions (mainly rain, winds and low air temperatures). Additionally, the floor and the walls of the haul trucks must always be clean and free of foreign materials to avoid intermingling and contamination, and flat and free of dimples. 

The haul trucks can be standard or semitrailer end-dump trucks, horizontal-discharge trucks or bottom-dump trailers. The end-dump trucks are the ones most commonly used throughout the world. The capacity of the standard end-dump truck is usually up to 20 tonnes, while the capacity of the semitrailer truck can go up to usually 25 tonnes. They discharge the hot asphalt directly to the paver hopper through an automatic tailgate opening by raising the truck bed. 

Sampling of RA should be representative and may be carried out from existing pavement to be recycled, from a lorry load (hauling trucks) of RA or from stockpiles. 

Southern Illinois coal mine. A 100-ton haul truck moved mined coal from the open pit to the surface. The operator sat in an elevated cab. There was a vertical ladder that led from the ground to a landing near the cab. The landing was about 15 feet above the ground. 

The haul truck had hydraulically powered steering and other controls. The large hydraulic system, including the reservoir for the system, contained more than 50 gallons of hydraulic fluid. 

A hydraulic hose connector mptured and sprayed hydraulic fluid onto the exhaust channel. The fluid caught fire. The hydraulic fluid leak continued to feed the fire. The pump for the hydraulic system continued to push fluid through the leak. The fire quickly surrounded much of the cab and continued to grow with the release of more hydraulic fluid. The operator stopped the haul tmck, quickly exited the cab and jumped to the ground from the landing. He sustained broken ankles and crawled away from the haul truck. 

One option available during purchase of the haul truck was a built-in fire suppression system intended to extinguish any fire created by the large and complex hydraulic system. There was no fire suppression system on this haul truck. 

One niche role for ME may be in the use of PEFC APUs onboard long-haul trucks. These trucks are idling overnight, but still demand auxiliary power beyond what is produced by the engine. The US has recently passed an anti-idUng regulation to limit pollution caused when idle. As a...
