Slurries pumps

Important auxiliary equipment in a flotation plant includes feeder and controls, sampling and weighing devices, slurry pumps, filter and thickeners for dewatering solids, reagent storage and makeup equipment, and analytical devices for process control. 

The white cast irons and their low alloys have good abrasion resistance properties [2,3]. White cast irons are used for grinding balls, segments for mill liners and slurry pumps. In the ceramic industry they are used for muller tyres and augers in the pulp and paper industry for attrition mill plates and chip feeders and in the paint industry for balls for grinding pigments.

Squeeze pressure is applied at the surface. If high-pressure squeezing is practiced, the formation is broken down and the cement slurry pumped into the fractures before the hesitation technique is applied. If low-pressure squeezing is desired, hesitation is started as soon as the packer is set. 

A slurry pump operating at 1 atm must be selected to transport a coal slurry from an open storage tank to a rotary drum filter, at a rate of 250 gpm. A sludge is filtered in a plate and frame press fitted with 25 mm frames. For the first 600 s the slurry pump runs at maximum capacity. A continuous rotary filter is required for an industrial process for the filtration of a suspension to produce 0.002 m3/s of filtrate. A sample was tested on a small laboratory filter of area 0.023 m2 to which it was fed by means of a slurry pump to give filtrate at a constant rate of 0.0125 m3/s. The pressure difference across the test filter increased from 14 kN/m2 after 300 s filtration to 28 kN/m2 after 900 s, at which time the cake thickness had reached 38 mm. What are suitable dimensions and operating conditions for the rotary filter, assuming that the resistance of the cloth used is one-half that on the test filter,... 

After homogenization with the home-made screw mixer the raw slurry gets through a CSN-600 slurry pump 5-6 times daily into the digester through a counterflow heat... 

In turbomachineiy the centrifugal flow and the axial-flow compressors are the ones used for compressing gases. Positive-displacement compressors such as reciprocating, gear-type, or lobe-type are widely used in the industry for many other applications such as slurry pumping.

Figure 4 is a diagram of the experimental unit. In its operation the two-phase feed of brine and methylene chloride enters the flash column. Ice slurry forms in the upper part of the column as the methylene chloride vaporizes, and the slurry is transferred by the slurry pump to the glass tee at the bottom of the separation column. In the glass tee, the ice floats into the separation column, where it is washed and removed. The brine recycles from the bottom of the separation unit to the ice generator by joining a stream of fresh feed and liquid refrigerant.

Experience indicates that an important part of a normal process development is definition of solutions to operability and reliability problems that have been identified. The EDS process development is no exception. Potential mechanical problems associated with feed slurry preheat, slurry pumping, high pressure letdown valves and vacuum bottoms pumping have been identified and will be addressed in the 250 T/D pilot plant program. In addition, several process problems associated with the variety of coals processed have been identified and solutions defined. The status of both pilot plant construction and definition of solutions to process problems is presented in this paper. 

CHAIRMAN SEGLIN I think their conceptual design was based on lock hoppers. He alluded to slurry pumping, but that s a horror. 

Supervision instituted new procedures. When slurry feed supply is shut down, procedures require the operators to continue agitation and acid flow for at least 30 minutes. On startup, the agitators and acid feed will be restored before starting up the slurry pumps. Both of these steps were designed to eliminate the possibility of having an undetected layer of calcium carbonate.
