Halobetasol propionate

Molecular formula C25H31CIF2O5 Molecular weight 484.97 CAS Registry No 66852-54-8 Merck Index 13,4608 [Pg.306]

Sample preparation Mix 1 g of a topical product, 5 mL 100 mM pH 4 citrate buffer saturated with NaCl, and 10 mL ethyl acetate shake vigorously by hand to ensure that no large clumps stick to the tube, mix with the tube on its side on an oscillating shaker for 15 min. Remove the upper ethyl acetate layer and wash with citrate buffer as before. Dry the ethyl acetate over anhydrous sodium sulfate and evaporate to dr5Uiess. Dissolve the residue in a mixture of 10 ml. heptane and 5 ml. MeCN water 90 10. Remove the upper heptane layer and extract it with 2 ml. MeCNiwater 90 10. Combine the MeCN/water layers and evaporate them to dryness, dissolve the residue in 300 aL MeOH, filter (0.45 rm nylon), inject a 5 iL aliquot. [Pg.306]

Mobile phase Gradient. MeCN water 18 82 for 2 min, to 82 18 over 12 min, maintain at 82 18 for 3 min, re-equilihrate at initial conditions for 12 min. [Pg.306]

Simultaneous alclometasone 17,21-dipropionate (10.93), amcinonide (10.90), beclo-methasone 17,21-dipropionate (11.90), betamethasone (6.52), betamethasone 21-acetate [Pg.306]

Do not use occlusive dressings in augmented betamethasone dipropionate, betamethasone dipropionate, clobetasol, halobetasol propionate, and mometasone treatment regimens. [Pg.2051]

Examples of group I, i.e. weak or low efficacy topical steroids, are hydrocortisone acetate in various concentrations, methylprednisolone 1.0% and prednisolone 0.5%. Group II, the moderately potent steroids, includes alclometasone dipropionate 0.05%, hydrocortisone butyrate 0.1%, triamcinolone acetonide 0.025% and fluocinolone ace-tonide 0.01%. Group III, the potent steroids, contains among others betamethasone valerate 0.1%, betamethasone dipropionate 0.05%, budesonide 0.025%, desoximetasone 0.05%, fluticasone propionate 0.05%, amcinonide 0.1%, fluocinonide 0.05% and mometasone furoate 0.1%. Group IV comprises the very potent agents such as clobetasol propionate 0.05% and halobetasol propionate 0.05%. [Pg.483]

Scientists at Ciba-Geigy synthesized a series of polyhalogenated corticosteroids, and one compound in the series containing halogen atoms at three positions -halobetasol propionate - was selected for further evaluation [41,42]. [Pg.432]

Halobetasol propionate is a class I topical corticosteroid, or an ultrapotent corticosteroid according the Stoughton classification system which is widely used in United States. Halobetasol propionate has been approved in the United States for the treatment of corticosteroid-responsive dermatoses. In a number of clinical studies, halobetasol propionate cream and ointment have both been tested against vehicle and compared with other ultrapotent corticosteroids [43]. [Pg.432]

The cream contains halobetasol propionate, a synthetic corticosteroid for topical dermatological use. The corticosteroids constitute a class of primarily synthetic steroids used topically as an anti-inflammatory and antipruritic agent. Chemically, halobetasol propionate is 21-chloro-6(alpha),9-difluoro-1 l(beta), 17-dihydroxy-16(beta)-methylpregna-l,4-diene-3-20-dione,17-propionate, C25H31CIF205. Each gram of cream contains 0.5 mg/g of... [Pg.166]

Clobetasol propionate, halcinonide, halobetasol propionate, and mometasone furoate are examples of 21-chlorocorticoids, in which the 21-chloro group replaces the 21-hydroxyl group (79,80,81,82) (Figs. 33.13 and 33.14). Clobetasol propionate, the 21-chloro analogue of betamethasone 17-propionate, is approximately eight times more active as topical anti-inflammatory agent than betamethasone 17a-valerate, the standard of comparison for topical vasoconstrictor/anti-inflammatory activity. Mometasone furoate, a 9a,21-dichloro... [Pg.1334]
