Image libraries in PowerPoint and in JPEG format that contain electronic files for all text art, most photographs, and all numbered tables in the text. These files can be used to print transparencies or to customize your lectures.

A historical control database can take on many formats, from a simple spreadsheet (e.g., Microsoft Excel) to a fully searchable database that is interfaced or a part of the laboratory s computer data collection system. Most laboratories that conduct large numbers of studies according to GLP standards have a validated computer data collection system, and some of these systems automatically compile control data ftom studies so the user does not have to reenter the data into a separate historical control database. However, because of the inflexibility of the data acquisition systems, many laboratories still compile their historical control data by manually entering into a stand-alone database, such as customized spreadsheet format (e.g., Microsoft Excel). 

The second edition CD-ROM contains 139 validation SOPs they are made available so that customers can input them into their computers and use their Microsoft Word programs to edit and print these documents. The contents of the procedures are written in simple and precise language to be in compliance with FDA regulation GMP and GLP requirements. The book ensures minimization of the number of documents to avoid the nightmare of the head of quality assurance at the time of FDA audit. The SOPs exclusively refer to the documents specially required for compliance however, specific formats are not included to ensure that the electronic templates can be easily used by pharmaceutical, bulk pharmaceutical, medical device, and biotechnology industries. 

Bradshaw et al. have disclosed a rapid and facile method for the dereplication of a purified natural product library [58]. The method integrates the molecular weight from low resolution MS data with the exact count of the number of methyl, methylene and methine groups obtained from ]H-13C NMR correlation data. Those structure properties were converted into a searchable text file that could be downloaded into a customized software program with chemical structure information in a specific format - SMILES. In the program, more than 120,000 unique structures were derived from commercial databases, such as Dictionary of Natural Products and Beilstein. 

If you choose the Custom category you will see the number formatting code that was applied to the cell. If you scroll through the list of codes, you ll see that many of them are quite complex (Figure 1-30). For the meaning of the built-in number format code symbols, see Table 1-4 or go to "Number Format Codes" in Excel s On-Line Help. 

You can create custom number formats. First, choose the Custom category from the list of numbers formats. This will display the list of (so far) built-in number formats. To add a new, user-defined number format (it wiU be added at the bottom of the list), type the format in the Type box. For example, if you want to display numbers to four decimal places, type 0.0000 in the Type box. The new format will be stored in the list of formats so that you can apply it to other cells the format will be available in all sheets in the workbook. 

To format a column of social security numbers, enter the format 000-00-0000, which will display the number 12545842 as e.g., 012-54-5842. To format a column of telephone numbers, use the custom format ( ) -. ... 

As you saw earlier. Excel recognizes the format of data typed into cells. If you enter a value such as 6/23/00 and then choose Cells... from the Format menu, choose the Number tab and choose the Custom category, you ll see that Excel has recognized the value as a date and applied the m/d/yy number format. Now choose the format d-mmm-yy from the menu and observe the Sample display at the top of the dialog box. The data is displayed as23-Jun-00. 

You can create custom date formats by using the year, month and day formats listed in Table 1-5. Day or month formats can have one-, two-, three- or four-letter formats year formats can have either two- or four-letter formats. For example, the number format dddd, mmmm d, yyyy applied to a date entered as 8/3/38 will display Wednesday, August 3, 1938. 

Conditional number formats can be created by using the syntax [condition, value] format statement. Condition is one of the symbols <, >, =, >=, <=, <> value may be any number. Format statement may be any built-in or custom format. For example, the number format [>1] "Number too large" accepts any input less than 1 but otherwise issues an error message. 

If you created a chart as an XY Scatter plot, for example, you can change it to another chart format by choosing Chart Type... from the Chart menu, then choosing any of the other chart types. Fifteen standard types, as well as a number of more specialized custom types, such as a combination Line-Column chart, are available. 

The following worksheet functions operate on the date serial value to return a date or time YEAR(value), MONTH(va/ue) and DAY value). Value canhe a serial value, a cell reference or a date as text. MONTH returns a number between 1 and 12, DAY a number between 1 and 31. The text function TEXT can also be used to format a date serial value any custom date format can be applied (see "The FIXED and TEXT Functions" later in this chapter). 

Expression is usually a number, although strings can also be formatted. Formattext is a built-in or custom format. Additional information can be found in Microsoft Excel/Visual Basic Reference, or VBA On-line Help. 

To provide more detail to the end user beyond a purity number and a color code, the UV chromatogram and the background-subtracted spectra that correspond to the integrated peaks are written into a format that can be read by a custom browser that resides within the corporate analytical request-and-tracking system. In this way, the end user can view via the intranet the associated LC-MS data by simply clicking on the numeric value for SI, which is reported via the Web page with the other associated profiling data. There is no requirement to have any vendor software on their personal computer (PC).
