Food interactions

Food can interact with drugs, but drugs can also interact with food. Examples of the latter are decreased absorption and elimination of vitamins and minerals, decreased motility, and also taste-, appetite- and vomiting problems (Box 8.4). [Pg.107]

4 Examples of drugs that can affect food intake [Pg.107]

Diuretics, ACE-inhibitors and NSAID affects the elimination of electrolytes [Pg.107]

Amphetamine, ephedrine and some SSRI can reduce appetite. [Pg.107]

Tramadol, dopaminagonists and many antibacterial can cause nausea and vomiting. [Pg.107]

No known significant drug or food interactions for spectinomycin are known. [Pg.103]

Fbssible drug-drug and drug-food interactions... [Pg.165]

One serious adverse reaction associated with the use of the MAOIs is hypertensive crisis (extremely high blood pressure), which may occur when foods containing tyramine (an amino acid present in some foods) are eaten (see Home Care Checklist Avoiding Drug Food Interactions With MAOIs). [Pg.282]

AVOIDING DRUG-FOOD INTERACTIONS WITH MAOIs... [Pg.286]

If the patient is prescribed an MAOI, it is critical that the nurse give the patient a list of foods containing tyramine. When teaching the patient, the nurse emphas zesthe importance of not eating any of the foods on the list. (See Home Care Checklist Avoiding Drug-Food Interactions With MAOIs)... [Pg.290]

Drug-drug or drug-food interactions Associated conditions... [Pg.12]

Tetracycline Tablets, capsules 250, 500 mg 500 mg twice daily before meals Maintenance dose 500 mg daily Gl upset, phototoxicity, tooth discoloration, drug and food interactions... [Pg.964]

Linezolid Myelosuppression monitor CBC once weekly if more than 2 weeks of therapy Peripheral and/or optic neuropathy has been reported with long-term therapy Mild MAO inhibitor evaluate for potential drug-drug or drug-food interactions... [Pg.1183]

Drug or food interactions to avoid with chemotherapy. [Pg.1394]

Unless otherwise stated, general information applies to the entire class of phosphodiesterase inhibitors. Sildenafil is highlighted because it was the first to be marketed and is the most thoroughly studied. The newer agents tadalafil and vardenafil have different pharmacokinetic profiles (Table 83-3), drug-food interactions, and adverse effects. [Pg.952]

Combine it with a daily routine like when waking up, at breakfast, to the 9 o clock news etcetera. Food interactions must be considered (below) Reduce the number of daily intake. Use Depot preparations or medications with longer half-life. [Pg.104]
