Visual impairment

CMV, a virus of the herpes family, isa common viral infection. Healthy individuals may beoome infected yet have no symptoms. However, immunocompromised patients (such as those with HIV or cancer) may have the infection. Symptoms include malaise, fever, pneumonia, and super infection. Infants may acquire the virus from the mother while in the uterus, resulting in learning disabilities and mental retardation. CM V can infect the eye, causing retinitis. Symptoms of CMV retinitis are blurred vision and decreased visual acuity. Visual impairment is irreversible and can lead to blindness if untreated. 

The primary health care provider examines the eye and external structures surrounding the eye and prescribes the drug indicated to treat the disorder. The nurse examines the eye for irritation, redness, and the presence of any exudate and carefully documents the findings in the patient s record. A purulent discharge is often found with infection of the eye. Pruritus (itching) is often present with allergic conditions of the eye. It is also important to determine if any visual impairment is present because this would indicate the need for assistance with ambulation and possibly activities of daily living.

Ensure that the product cosmetics are maintained through its hfe. High-performance coatings or body colour can ensure that the product does not become scuffed, chipped or visually impaired before the end of life.

Liquids and Suspensions. Most liquid formulations are not packaged in unit-dosage form. Therefore, before administration, the proper amount of medication to be taken for each dose must be measured. This additional requirement may compound any difficulties a patient may have in following a prescribed schedule. Patients suffering from visual impairment, arthritis, or tremors associated with neurological disorders are particularly likely to become frustrated with this type of formulation. Visual impairments make it difficult, if not impossible, for many elderly patients to measure the prescribed amounts of medication accurately. Impaired dexterity, owing to tremors or arthritis, may have effects on a patient s ability to hold both a spoon and a bottle at the same time while pouring out the desired amount of liquid.

Smoke obscuration is an essential parameter related to fire hazard, because it may cause visual impairment both of the occupants of a fire scenario and of the rescue team, creating a potential danger. 

The major clinical study underpinning product approval was a randomized, double blind study in which 71 CTCL patients were administered the product at one of two dosage levels (9 or 18 [tg kg 1 day ) overall, 30 per cent of patients experienced an objective tumour response. Serious side effects potentially associated with product administration include acute hypersensitivity-type reactions, vascular leak syndrome and visual impairment. Additional adverse reactions include flu-like symptoms, headache, hyper- or hypo-tension, as well as digestive upset. Retinitis pigmentosa can result from thioridazine doses greater than 800 mg daily (the recommended maximum dose) and can cause permanent visual impairment or blindness.

Human subjects experienced irritation of the nose and throat after brief exposure to 10-20ppm. Workers complained of transient visual disturbances (haloes around lights) after exposure to the vapor for 8 hours, probably due to mild corneal edema, which usually cleared within 3 hours. The liquid is also capable of causing severe eye burns that may cause permanent visual impairment.
