A system based on microdialysis coupled with flow-injection chemiluminescence detection allows for direct sampling of unbound drug without extractive sample preparation [72], A similar approach based on continuous ultrafiltration has also been reported [73]. Modifications designed to overcome challenges of low solubility and high-non-specific binding in the ultrafiltration approach have also been described [74].

Fang and co-workers [115] have reported a flow injection chemiluminescence assay for the detection of maleic hydrazide (MH). The imprinted poly(MAA-co-EDMA) polymer selectively retained the herbicide that was further treated with alkaline luminol-potassium periodate to produce a strong CL signal. Upon reaction, the absorbed MH was destroyed and removed by the flowing solution. The polymer was reused up to ten times and the linear response was between 3.5 x 10 and 5.0 x 10 2 mg mL-1 with a detection limit of 6.0 x 10 5 mg mL-1. The CILA flow injection system was used for the analysis of potato and onion samples spiked with 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 x 10-3 mg mL-1 of MH. Recoveries ranged from 98% to 103% (RSD 2.3%), demonstrating the successful application of the method. 

Nie et al. used a flow injection chemiluminescence method for the determination of dipyridamole in Persantin tablets [51]. A flow injection analysis system equipped with a chemiluminescence detector was used. Sodium hypochlorite was used as a chemiluminescent substance, and Triton X-100 was used as an enhancer of the chemiluminescence reaction. Sample solutions (pH 4-6) was injected into 0.2% Triton X-100 and treated with 0.5% sodium hypochlorite, and the chemiluminescence intensity then measured. The calibration graph was linear from 0.04 to 10 pg/mL of Persantin tablets (as its active ingredient dipyridamole), with a detection limit of 11 ng/mL. Recoveries were quantitative and the relative standard deviation ( = 3) was 2.7%. The method has been used to determine Persantin in injection and tablets, and the results obtained using this method agreed with those obtained by the Chinese Pharmacopoeial method.
