Extractable organic compounds resins

Acetonitrile is an excellent solvent for both inorganic and organic compounds, resins, and polymers. The good solvency and relatively low boiling point of acetonitrile allows the solvent to be used as recoverable reaction medium in the pharmaceutical industry. Its largest use involves the separation of butadiene from C4 hydrocarbon feed stock by extractive distillation. [Pg.141]

Elforts have been made to characterize the nature and content of individual components that are present in the low-molecular-mass fraction of the total mill effluents, which include the spent chlorination and alkali extraction stage liquors [2,4]. Approximately 456 types of compounds have been detected in the conventional bleach effluents, of which 330 are chlorinated organic compounds [22]. The compounds may be lumped into three main groups, namely, acidic, phenolic, and neutral (Table 2). Acidic compounds are further divided into the five categories of acids fatty, resin, hydroxy, dibasic, and aromatic acids. The most important fatty acids are formic and acetic acids. The dominant resin acids are abietic and dehydroabietic acids. Among the hydroxy acids identified, glyceric acid predominates. Dibasic acids such as oxalic, malonic, succinic, and mafic acids are derived from the lignin and carbohydrate fraction... [Pg.464]

The Thermatrix, Inc., PADRE process is a commercial, off-gas treatment technology that purifies airstreams contaminated with volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The PADRE vapor treatment process traps VOCs using filter beds that contain a proprietary resin. This regenerative adsorption method involves an on-line treatment bed for infiuent air, while another bed undergoes a desorption cycle. PADRE often works in conjunction with soil vapor extraction or air stripping systems. The PADRE process can be applied at site remediation projects, industrial wastewater facilities, and industrial air processing sites. [Pg.1055]

A base extraction procedure was developed to minimize the degradation of the performance of fused-silica capillary chromatographic columns used to analyze XAD resin extracts. The degradation of the capillary gas chromatographic column was apparently caused by acidic nonvolatiles called humic materials. The humic materials were absorbed on XAD resins and eluted by nonpolar solvents along with the nonpolar organic compounds of interest in the samples. The base extraction procedure removed approximately 84% of the humic materials present in the ether extract. [Pg.324]

The handling and disposal problems associated with the use of liquid solvent extractors have resulted in increased attention to the separation and preconcentration of organic compounds in water by collection in synthetic polymers followed by elution with an organic solvent (2). For example, selective collection and concentration of organic bases on methylacrylic ester resin from dilute water samples have been reported (3). Such collection techniques are especially well-suited to flow-injection measurement techniques. In this study, ionizable organic analytes such as salicylic acid and 8-hydroxyquinoline (oxine) were extracted into a polymer and then back extracted by an aqueous solution. Amperometric measurement using a flow-injection technique was employed to monitor the process. [Pg.344]
