Exam Schedule

We do this (on any scale) by decoupling separating concerns.21 The object that deals with vacations need not be the same as the one that deals with exams. The two concerns should be separated so that (1) it is easy to change the way that vacations are scheduled without disturbing how exams are set and (2) it would be possible to create a different... 

You are the best judge of your study habits. You should make a realistic decision about what will work best for you. Good intentions and wishes will not prepare you for the exam. Decide what works best for you. Do not feel that you must follow one of these schedules exactly you can fine-tune any one of them to your own needs. Do not make the mistake of forcing yourself to follow someone else s method. Look at the following descriptions, and see which best describes you. This will help you pick a prep mode. 

Get a copy of this announcement. Often your public library will have a copy, or you can get one directly from the fire department, city human resources department, or from the Internet. If exams are held irregularly, the fire or personnel department may maintain a mailing list so that you can receive an exam announcement the next time an exam is scheduled. If exams are held frequently, you will sometimes be told to simply show up at the exam site on a given day of the week or month. In those cases you usually get more information about the job and the selection process if you pass the written exam. Study the exam announcement, as well as any other material, such as brochures, that the department sends you. You need to be prepared for the whole selection process to be successful. 

Don t fall into the cram trap. Take control of your preparation time by mapping out a study schedule. There are four sample schedules on the following pages, based on the amount of time you have before the exam. If you are the kind of person who needs deadlines and assign-... 

In constructing your plan, you should take into account how much work you need to do. If your score on the sample test wasn t what you had hoped, consider taking some of the steps from Schedule A and getting them into Schedule D somehow, even if you do have only three weeks before the exam. 

If no test has been announced yet in your city, you may have a year or more in which to get ready. This schedule gives you six months to sharpen your skills. If an exam is announced in the middle of your preparation, you can use one of the later schedules to help you compress your study program. Study only the chapters that are relevant to the type of exam you will be taking. 

If you have three to six months before the exam, that should be enough time to prepare for the written test, especially if you score above 70 on the first sample test you take. This schedule assumes four months stretch it out or compress it if you have more or less time, and study only the chapters that are relevant to the type of exam you will be taking. 

In the United States, the Research Diagnostic Criteria (RDC) (19) and the DSM-IV (8) both provide clear inclusion and exclusion criteria for a current episode ( Table 9-2). Evaluation of past episodes can be made using the Schedule for Affective Disorders and Schizophrenia—Lifetime Version (SADS-L) ( 20) or the Structured clinical Interview for DSM (21). In other countries, the Present State Exam (PSE) (22) can reliably distinguish mania from other disorders. Table 9-3 reviews the various clinical presentations of primary bipolar disorder and their related DSM-IV diagnoses ( 23) (see also Appendix A, Appendix G, and Appendix H).

There is one time slot each week that is the very best time to prepare for the GRE, especially in the weeks leading up to the test. That is the day of the week and time of day you have scheduled to take the exam. If you practice taking the test and you work on improving your skills on that day and at that time, your mind and your body will be ready to operate at peak efficiency when you really need them. For example, if you are scheduled to take the GRE on Saturday morning, get into the habit of studying for the test during the actual testing hours.

One last consideration about the Verbal section of the GRE is the effect of good time management during the exam. The basic rule is a minute a question, but some questions (analogies and antonyms) will take less time, and others will take more time. Don t hold yourself to a strict schedule, but learn to be aware of the time you are taking.

Wholesale revision of your first draft is strongly advised for all writing apart from in exams. If a word processor is available, this can be a simple process. Where possible, schedule your writing so you can leave the first draft to settle for at least a couple of days. When you return to it fresh, you will see more easily where improvements can be made. As you approach the completion of your study of chemistry, you should start preparing for any final exams or standardized tests that you will be taking. The best way to begin is by developing a schedule for the remainder of the school year. Map out a schedule that involves spending more time on topics that you studied early in the course or ones that you found more difficult. 

Physicians are being overburdened by patient visits and the necessity to follow the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS) and other practice guidelines. Pharmacists can perform chart reviews to see if patients with diabetes have received regularly scheduled test for A 1C, urinary microalbumin, lipid measurements, referral for dilated eye exams, foot assessment and foot care, and blood pressure measurements.

An internal medicine clinic had been struggling with the appointment scheduling issue for a period of time. In particular, they wanted to determine the number of slots to be provided for physical exams, same-day appointments, and return appointments. The first step was to estimate the total demand for physical exams and for other appointments in the clinic. Data on average number of visits per person per year to the internal medicine clinic were available from past history. Multiplying this number by the total number of patients seen in the clinic yielded an estimate of total number of visits to be handled in the clinic. 

The functionality for a modality to receive a work hst has been standardized in the DICOM framework. As most HlSs do not speak DICOM natively and given that the PACS may require lists of scheduled exams for other purposes as well (see Sect. 8.3.2.1) a common approach is for the HIS to communicate this information to the PACS and to have the PACS internally distribute work lists to the individual modalities (dotted block arrow 2 in Fig. 8.2). Communication from HIS to PACS is most often using the HL7 standard. 

Make a chart of the time leading up to the exam. Include all activities, work, leisure, social, as well as the time to be used for revision, so that the schedule is realistic.
