Evaluating an Adult. Evalnating an adnlt for ADHD carries its own dilemmas and is no less difficnlt. Althongh the diagnostic criteria remain the same, ADHD in an adnlt does look somewhat different from the way it does in a 6-year-old child. In addition, one mnst also determine that the illness was present before age 7. Withont parents and elementary school teachers there to help, it can certainly tax the memory of an adnlt patient when asking about any problems experienced in the first grade. I was also very much impressed by the difficulty of the Committee s task. It looked to me as though their evaluation of the possibilities had to depend to such a large extent on what they heard that it was impossible for them to properly evaluate the varying amoimts of optimism or pessimism with which the different propositions were presented. Neither was I convinced that they realized that we knew our job too. They checked our heat transfer calculations - which any child could make - right then and there. This amused me a good deal. Of course, it was the only calculation they could check. [Pg.68]
