Regulations European Union

Consideration is given to the toxicity of nitrosamines formed during rubber vulcanisation in the presence of certain accelerators, the mechanisms by which they are formed, and French, German and European Union regulations relating to nitrosamines in the workplace atmosphere and in rubber products. Methods used in the sampling and analysis of nitrosamines are also described. 6 refs. [Pg.76]

This is a short item that provides information on the European Union regulations regarding the disposal/ destruction of polychlorinated biphenyls and other injurious substances. Very brief details of the regulations are provided. [Pg.98]

According to the directive 90/496/EEC on nutrition labeling of foodstuffs [401], the vitamin levels in food have to be reported as relative daily allowance (RDA%). This information is mandatory on the label if any claim about their content [402] or addition of vitamins [403] is made. The European Union Regulation 1925/2006 stipulates the vitamin formulations that may be added to foods [403]. [Pg.603]

Specific recommendations on contaminants (e.g., maximum levels of lead, cadmium or mercury) in foodstuffs are summarized in the European Union Regulations.9 The specifications concerning trace elements in foods and food additives are As < 3mgkg 1, Pb < lOmgkg-1, and Hg and Cd < lmgkg-1. [Pg.382]

European Union regulations, as well as the FDA, have set MRL values of 100 /tg/kg in tissue and 10 fJLg/kg in milk samples for total SA content, respectively. There is a concern about the effects of SAs entering the human food chain, since there is a possibility that exposure to these drugs could reduce the effectiveness of human therapeutic drugs and that some SAs could be carcinogenic. The MRL values of 50 /zg/kg in both tissue and milk samples were set for TMP and its congeners. [Pg.659]

European Union regulation foresees a maximum residue limit (MRL) for dichlorvos in durum wheat at 2.0 pg/g [4], Dichlorvos is also classified as a probable human carcinogen on the basis of the effects observed in mice and rats. Therefore, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed cancellation of most uses of dichlorvos and proposed... [Pg.687]

The RoHS procedure has now combined with European Union Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and restriction of Chemicals (REACH), which is a new European Union Regulation (EC/2006/1907 of 18 December 2006). Four additional substances are listed that will be assessed as a priority, among these substances is hexabromocyclododecane, a brominated flame retardant widely used in expanded polystyrene for which no alternatives have been found so far. REACH addresses the production and use of chemical substances and their potential impacts on both human health and the environment it has been described as the most complex legislation in the Union s history and the most important in the last 20 years. It is the strictest law to date regulating chemical substances and will impact industries throughout the world. REACH entered into force in June 2007, with a phased implementation over the next decade. [Pg.94]

Sensory quality of olive oil is currently determined by the European Union regulation (15) or the International Olive Oil Council (lOOC) trade standard (16). Both official methods used trained panelists but differ in the sensory descriptors and the scales employed. The EU standard involves rating the oil for olfactory, gustatory, and tactile attributes on intensity rating scales ranging from 0 (no perception) to 5... [Pg.465]

The European Union regulations define decaffeinated as coffee (bean) containing 0.3% or less of caffeine (normal content 1-3%). [Pg.194]

More and more clinical trials in children are taking place and are improving the availability of ready-made specific paediatric drug delivery systems. Moreover, from the perspective of the new European Union regulations on medicines for children (European Commission, 2006), the number of trials will increase in the future. Meanwhile, extemporaneous dispensing, even though it should remain the last resort, is still an important activity for paediatric pharmacists and carers (Yeung et al., 2004). [Pg.46]

The maximum concentration allowed for nitrate concentration under European Union regulations is 50mgl . To determine whether this regulated value is not exceeded, we perform a one-sided t-test at the upper end. By using the mean of 51.2 and the standard deviation of s = 0.316, we calculate the t-value according to Eq. (2.31) ... [Pg.33]

Recent measurements have not shown high thujone contents, either. Modem absinthe made by a traditional recipe has an average thujone concentration of 1.3 mg/1. Absinthe samples preserved from the pre-prohibition period did not show levels higher than 10 mg/1. A study of 147 commercial products showed that 55% contained less than 2 mg/1 of thujone. European Union regulations today set the limit for the thujone content in drinks at 35 mg/1, as experience shows that the neurotoxicity of this substance is negligible at this level. In the light of scientific results, the prohibition of absinthe was lifted in most European countries. [Pg.171]

The automotive industry is under pressure, in various countries, to make automobiles more recyclable, and to use more recycled materials in automobile manufacture. For example, European Union regulations require that only 5% of automobiles, by weight, be landfilled beginning in 2015. Many countries are incorporating, either by regulation or voluntarily, the philosophy of extended product responsibility on... [Pg.1049]
