Environmental Reviews

The project review process involves multiple steps that should be definea in management gmdelines (CCPS, 1993, pp. 57-61). The steps include (1) review pohcy, (2) review scheduling, (3) reviewtech-nique, (4) review team representation, (5) review documentation, (6) review follow-up, (7) review follow-up verification, and (8) review procedures change management. These steps define how a review, whether it be a safety review, environmental review, pre-start-up review, or whatever, is conducted and how closure of review aclion items is achieved. [Pg.2285]

Initial Environmental Review - EMAS requires that an initial environmental review be performed to identify an organization s environmental aspects. If the organization already has an Environmental Management System (EMS) that is ISO 14001 certified, it does not need to conduct a formal environmental review when implementing EMAS (so long as specific environmental aspects in Annex VI are fully considered in the certified EMS). [Pg.112]

The organization should also ensure that all the elements of the initial environmental review, detailed in Annex VII, have been considered and incorporated where necessary in the ISO 14001 process. It is possible that the areas and the scope covered by ISO 14001 and EMAS may be different. The organization should take steps to ensure that the scope to be covered by the EMAS registration is covered by the ISO 14001 certificate. [Pg.114]

Finding 5-5. There is substantial local opposition to offsite shipment and disposal of hydrolysate from both BGCAPP and PCAPP. Deciding whether a company has carried out an audit will in turn depend to some degree on the company s own definition. A number of different types of audit have been identified. An environmental review is an initial analysis of the environmental issues, impact and performance related to activities at a site and should be seen as the first step in the audit programme. Following the review, a system audit will assess the effectiveness of the company s environmental management system. Other audits will cover particular sites, acquisition or divestment and the production impacts of making a specific product. [Pg.64]
