Elastomeric diaphragm

For suction pump systems where the potential for syphoning exists should the fuel feed line be broken when the dispenser is in operation, some jurisdictions require a valve that allows fuel flow from the tank only when the dispenser is in operation. These valves are typically made from brass and have an elastomeric diaphragm used to open the valve. The diaphragm within the valve must be methanol-compatible or it will rupture, causing the pump to draw air and lose prime. The valves should be nickel-plated and the diaphragm replaced with one made from teflon [4.4],... 

The diaphragm is the central element which determines the whole pump head design and its size. PTFE diaphragms are predominantly used - for higher pressures metal diaphragms, and for special designs elastomeric diaphragms (Table 2). 

EOF- or chemically-induced mobilization of the focused zones past the detector, Guillo et al. illustrated the use of on-chip pumping, generated by elastomeric diaphragm pumps in a three-layer device (one PDMS layer sandwiched by two glass layers), to mobilize the zones. The authors explored the effect of mobilization flow rates on the separation of two amino acids, L-lysine and L-histidine the electropherograms can be seen in Figure 10.12. 

In the tube press and aU variants of the diaphragm press, elastomeric diaphragms can be inflated at a constant pressure to facilitate compression deiiquoring of the filter cake(s). This consolidation is most frequently performed immediately following cake formation to remove unwanted liquors and/or improve the distribution of cake solids to aid subsequent cake washing and/or gas deiiquoring. In a typical press the duration of cake compression equals the total filtration time such that = t g.

Elastomeric silicone IPN with TPU and S-EB-S thermoplastic elastomer matrices have found some medical applications [Carew and Deisher, 1989]. The silicone contributes to the excellent release characteristics and to the bio-compatibility. Typical applications include medical tubing, catheters, implants, diaphragms, seals, gaskets, etc. 

The presently used commercial polysulfides are based on bis(2-chloro-ethyl)formal and possess excellent solvent resistance. The elastomeric products are used in such applications as lacquers, hoses, printing rolls, diaphragms, and gaskets. 

MAJOR APPLICATIONS Used to mold equipment parts, seals, and gaskets, particularly in chemical process equipment and in cryogenic systems. Also used as barrier packaging in pharmaceutical industry. Elastomeric homo- and copolymers used in o-rings, gaskets, and diaphragms. 

Flame propagation falls under ASTM C1166 [11]. The test is run on elastomeric materials employed in parts having surface areas of 100 cm. This standard has been used in testing parts such as window gaskets, door housings, diaphragms, and roof mats. 

Characteristics high flexibility and high impact resistance, and excellent biocompatibility. Film forms of polyurethane have been used in fabrication of vascular graft and patches, heart valve leaflets, blood pumps, diaphragms for implantable artificial heart, and carriers for drug delivery. Elastomeric fibers (Spandex) made from polyurethane copolymer have been used in surgical hoses.
