Films polyurethane

Polyurethane. SmaU quantities of polyurethane film are produced as a tough mbber-like film. Polyurethane is more commonly used to produce foamed sheet, both flexible and rigid. The flexible foam is used as cushioning in furniture and bedding the rigid foam is widely used for architectural insulation because of its outstanding thermal insulation efficiency (see Urethane POLYMERS). [Pg.378]

The above prepolymer on treatment with 2 as the chain extender in dry DMF did not proceed at ambient temperature. The mixture had to be heated to 60°C for 3 h before the reaction was complete. After curing at 60°C for 24 h, the yellow, translucent block polyurethane film (BPUR2) again showed the absence of the —NCO peak in the IR spectrum indicating that curing had been complete. The fact that a higher temperature had to be used in the case of 2 as the chain extender compared to 1 is in keeping with the lower order of reactivity of diols with diisocyanates as compared to diamines with diisocyanates. [Pg.446]

Interfacial behavior of different silicones was extensively studied, as indicated in Section 3.12.4.6. To add a few more examples, solution behavior of water-soluble polysiloxanes carrying different pendant hydrophilic groups, thus differing in hydrophobicity, was reported.584 A study of the aggregation phenomena of POSS in the presence of amphiphilic PDMS at the air/water interface was conducted in an attempt to elucidate nanofiller-aggregation mechanisms.585 An interesting phenomenon of the spontaneous formation of stable microtopographical surface domains, composed primarily of PDMS surrounded by polyurethane matrix, was observed in the synthesis of a cross-linked PDMS-polyurethane films.586... [Pg.682]

Future work will be concerned with quantitative measurement of hydrogen abstraction rates of labile hydrogens in the carbamate moieties of several aromatic diisocyanate based polyurethanes. It is expected that experimental conditions will alter significantly the hydrogen abstraction rate. Emphasis will also be placed on measurement of transient intermediates in polyurethane films. Finally, extensive laser flash photolysis experiments will be conducted on polyurethanes based on both 2,A-toluenediisocyanate and 2,6-toluenediisocyanate. Preliminary data suggest that the placement of the methyl substituent can alter the nature of the transient intermediates formed. [Pg.56]

Figure T. Effects of molecular weight of PCL-diol parts on the hydrolysis of polyurethanes by R. delemar lipase. Each reaction mixture for biodegradability assay contained 15.6-37.2 mg of polyurethane film (i4.U-2T.1 mg as polyester moiety) on the cover glass (3.2 cm ) in a total volume of 10 ml. In this condition, no effect of amount of polyurethane was observed. (Mn)s of PCL-diols parts of polyurethanes I, II, III and IV were 530, 1250, 2000, 3000 respectively. The dashed lines show PCL-diol (Mn 2000) ( ) and PCL-diol (Mn 3000) ( ). Figure T. Effects of molecular weight of PCL-diol parts on the hydrolysis of polyurethanes by R. delemar lipase. Lee and Matsuda modified a segmented polyurethane film with a dithio-carbamate moiety and then initiated the polymerization of (ethylene glycol) methacrylate and N,N-dimethylacrylamide [35]. The resulting films were hy-drophihc and were shown to inhibit adhesion of platelets. Such films could be useful as anti-coagulant substrates for devices implanted in vivo. [Pg.53]

An alternative to the acrylamide-based composite hydrogel dressing is an acrylamide grafted to a polyurethane film to give a transparent, flexible gel with an equilibrium water content of approximately 50 /o. The hydrated gel has a low modulus of elasticity and a high water permeability that facilitates the adherence of the gel to the wound surface. The permeability... [Pg.1030]

In addition, excimer formation in solid polyurethane films is quite high where hydrogen bonding, as identified by the shift in the carbonyl stretching frequency, is prevalent. [Pg.201]

Photophysics of NDI-650 and NDI-2000 polyurethane Films. The fluorescence spectrum of an NDI-650 polyurethane film ( e t = 300 nm) is dominated by excimer anission (Figure 11). A preliminary multiexponential analysis of the excimer and monomer emission decay curves indicates a complicated photophysical system. However, it can be reported that the long-lived component of the excimer decay curve (taken at 500 nm) does yield a lifetime of 22 ns for excimer emission, close to that obtained in CH2CI2. [Pg.215]

There are important requirements that may be necessary — An additional substrate may be required either to promote cell growth or to serve as a reductant, and degradation is functional under low oxygen concentrations and may be facilitated by sorption of the cells onto polyurethane films by the presence of straw compost (Laine and Jorgensen 1996). [Pg.817]

In Fig. 12 the absorption spectra of the low molecular model compound (curve 1,2) and the polyurethane (curve 3,4) before and after irradiation are depicted. The coinciding spectra of the model compound and the polymer in solution and their coinciding photoresponse are clear evidence for the fact that the chromo-phore is built into the polymer backbone as part of the hard segments as shown in Fig. 11. The UV-spectra obtained from polyurethane films were similar to the one in solution shown in curve 3, Fig. 12, but did not change upon irradiation of the films. [Pg.233]

Backbone elements R-NC-O-R. In order to assess the general properties a polyurethane film exhibits one must identify the backbone elements the R and the R in the title formula. This harkens back to the original intermediate chemicals. But, it has been found in the real world of applications that some reasonably similar combinations are virtually identical. In Table III, therefore, we are able to establish some generalized categories. [Pg.510]
