Effectiveness Process

Other limitations of electrochemical fluorination ate that compounds such as ethers and esters ate decomposed by hydrogen fluoride and cannot be effectively processed. Branching and cross-linking often take place as a side reaction in the electrochemical fluorination process. The reaction is also somewhat slow because the organic reactant materials have to diffuse within 0.3 nm of the surface of the electrode and remain there long enough to have all hydrogen replaced with fluorine. The activated fluoride is only active within 0.3 nm of the surface of the electrode. [Pg.274]

In most cases volume requirement is the primary consideration for selecting the most cost-effective process. However, in many cases a lower volume process may be used during initial phases of a program and then be replaced by a higher volume process when the product has gained field acceptance. [Pg.94]

A derivative of the Claus process is the Recycle Selectox process, developed by Parsons and Unocal and Hcensed through UOP. Once-Thm Selectox is suitable for very lean acid gas streams (1—5 mol % hydrogen sulfide), which cannot be effectively processed in a Claus unit. As shown in Figure 9, the process is similar to a standard Claus plant, except that the thermal combustor and waste heat boiler have been replaced with a catalytic reactor. The Selectox catalyst promotes the selective oxidation of hydrogen sulfide to sulfur dioxide, ie, hydrocarbons in the feed are not oxidized. These plants typically employ two Claus catalytic stages downstream of the Selectox reactor, to achieve an overall sulfur recovery of 90—95%. [Pg.215]

Although desalination technologies ate diverse, MSF has been for some time, and will remain well into the next century, the main process for desalination of seawater. Inroads ate being made by the multi-effect processes and, in particular, by the low temperature ME processes. [Pg.255]

Identification of Waste Constituents In any processing (and disposal) scheme, the key item is knowledge of the characteristics of the wastes to be handled. Without this information, effective processing or treatment is impossible. For this reason, the characteristics of the wastes must be known before they are accepted and hauled to a treatment or disposal site. In most states, proper identification of the constituents of the waste is the responsibility of the waste generator. [Pg.2242]

How do you choose an effective Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) team ... [Pg.11]

The teams selected to design PSM systems should reflect the approach you have chosen. However, regardless of the approach you use, keep in mind some general characteristics of effective process design teams, which include ... [Pg.142]

Why is it necessary to sell PSM inside your company Because PSM improvement requires individual as well as corporate commitment. Effective process safety management relies on individual behavior on the job, and... [Pg.161]

Chapter 1, The Role of Human Error in Chemical Process Safety, discusses the importance of reducing human error to an effective process safety effort at the plant. The engineers, managers, and process plant personnel in the CPI need to replace a perspective that has a blame and punishment view of error with a systems viewpoint that sees error as a mismatch between human capabilities and demands. [Pg.2]

Accountability is the obligation to answer for one s performance with respect to expectations, goals, and objectives. It is an important element of an effective process safety management system. To improve safety, the risk associated with human errors must be reduced. The work situation is the predominant cause of human errors and management has control over the work situation. [Pg.349]

Presents an effective process for integrating PSM and ESH systems into one overall Quality Management system. [Pg.3]

Tantalum powder is produced by reduction of potassium heptafluoro-tantalate, K2TaF7, dissolved in a molten mixture of alkali halides. The reduction is performed at high temperatures using molten sodium. The process and product performance are very sensitive to the melt composition. There is no doubt that effective process control and development of powders with improved properties require an understanding of the complex fluoride chemistry of the melts. For instance, it is very important to take into account that changes both in the concentration of potassium heptafluorotantalate and in the composition of the background melt (molten alkali halides) can initiate cardinal changes in the complex structure of the melt itself. [Pg.254]

Corrosion anywhere within the steam-water circuits results in metal wastage and possible equipment failure. And if the boiler plant is not operated correctly or if the water chemistry is not maintained within certain control parameters, the generated steam may contain contaminants in a cause-and-effect process that ultimately affects the utilization of the steam, reducing quality in a number of areas, and increasing fuel, manufacturing, or maintenance costs. [Pg.136]

Where problems develop, there is always a cause-and-effect process. In this case, as oxygen infiltrates the CR system, enhanced condensate line corrosion results (i.e., corrosion over and above the level that may be caused by the carbonic acid formed during steam condensation). This enhanced corrosion, in turn, creates the potential for further downstream corrosion debris pickup by the returning condensate and transporting this material back to the FW system. [Pg.204]

Demineralization by SAC(H)/Degassing/WBA(OH) Removes virtually all ionic TDS and carbon dioxide, but not silica. It is a cost-effective process. [Pg.358]

Since the 1940s, alkanesulfonates have served as emulsifiers in the emulsion polymerization of vinylchloride. Nevertheless, the detailed mechanisms of this process are not yet completely known. An important advantage of using alkanesulfonates is that they produce latices with a high solid content, which can be effectively processed by spray drying [90]. [Pg.205]

The photovoltaics industry could expand rapidly if the efficiency of polycrystalline modules could be increased to 15 percent, if these modules could be built with assurance of reliability over a 10- to 20-year period, and if they could be manufactured for 100 or less per square meter. Solar energy research has been largely directed toward only one of these issues efficiency. All research aimed at reducing manufacturing costs has been done in industry and has been largely empirical. Almost no fundamental engineering research has been done on either the laboratory scale or the pilot plant scale for cost-effective processes for the production of photoconverters. [Pg.62]

The objective of the project described is to obtain insight in the relation between the chemical fine-structure of polysaccharides from soy bean cell walls and their functional properties in industrial products and how they effect processing. Soy meal is of great importance in the feed industry. The application of the (modified) soy bean cell wall polysaccharides as a food additive will be investigated. The obtained knowledge of the polysaccharide structures will also be used in studies concerned with the improvement of the in vivo digestibility of these polysaccharides. [Pg.511]

The strong impact in the science of transmission electron microscopy (TEM) (as well as of any imaging technique) is due to the fact that the information content of an image is immediately and effectively processed by the eye and the brain. [Pg.139]
