The International Chemical Safety Cards (ICSCs) provide essential health and safety information on chemicals to promote their safe use. They are intended for use at the shop floor level by workers, but also by other interested parties in factories, agriculture, constmction, and other workplaces and often form part of education and training activities. 

The information in an ICSC is expressed as far as possible using standard phrases thereby helping to reinforce education and training activities as well as enabling use of computer-aided translation into different languages. Organic production systems are complex out of necessity, since soil fertility and plant protection are provided by applying the principles of ecology and lessons from natural ecosystems. Occupational Safety and Health Act. Administered by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Occupation Safety and Health Act concerns health and safety in the workplace, OSHA sets standards for worker exposure to specific chemicals, for air concentration values, and for monitoring procedures. Construction and environmental controls also come under this act. This act provides for research, information, education, and training in occupational safety and health. 

Employees should be fully informed of the potential hazards associated with their jobs. Regulations, such as the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Hazard Communication Standard, require that hazard information be communicated not only to employees, but also to users of manufactured products (OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.1200 Hazard Communication). Information is communicated partly through material safety data sheets and labels. Education and training of employees about health hazards they may encounter on the job, along with appropriate protective measures, should be conducted by a multidisciplinary health team of relevant specialists and trained health educators. 

This project, therefore, will serve as an initial assessment of the forensic science profession specifically, its personnel (professional and para-professional), their education and training. The Foundation project staff is gathering descriptive data on the individuals within the profession, on the scientific laboratories in which they function, and on all the relevant education and training programs in the country. Information on crime scene evidence technicians and training courses will be included in this phase of the project. 

The problem of the education and training of the literature chemist, then, might well be approached in terms of what such an individual needs to know how to do. Such an analysis discloses the need for the development of certain competencies that are essential to the work.
