For the PA6 design project, the minimum total number of tools is 9. This means that each work tool must be available at least once otherwise the project cannot be carried out. If some work tools are available more than once, the effect on the total project duration is specific to the work tool. Moreover, several work tools are needed only once or only in a work area with sequential activities in these cases, additional work tools of the same tjqje have no positive effect on the duration of the process. [Pg.474]

Selection of the most applicable VIPs to be performed during a specific project is the focus of the VIP planning session, which should be held just following project kickoff. Figure 9-34 presents the optimal times during a large project for consideration of VIPs. The duration for FEL has been assumed to be 12 months. Every project will have a... [Pg.48]

For both CPM and PERT, the overall project is viewed as a series of activities or operations performed in an optimum sequence to reach a desired objective. Each activity is considered as having a beginning and an end so that the overall project consists of a series of these events. The general technique, then, is to develop a mathematical model to give the best program or interrelated series of events to achieve a desired goal. The major difference in concept between CPM and PERT is that involved in estimating the time duration of activities. Thus, CPM may be relatively specific on time items, while PERT includes measures of the uncertainties involved. [Pg.408]

The durations developed so far represent an average for "normal" project execution and must be adjusted to reflect specific conditions, mostly weather and plant operations. [Pg.93]

In the second group, only four specific tools were added in each case. A Levene test proved that the variances within the two groups did not differ significantly. Thus, the results for the two groups could be compared. A significant (F6 69 = 110,081 p < 0.05) reduction of the total time of project duration (TTpd) between 9 and 13 work tools could be shown using a oneway ANOVA. Between 13 and 17 tools and beyond, the reduction of time consumption is not significant. [Pg.475]

Sensitivity is given by volume sensitivity expressed in units of kcps/pCi/cc or cps/Bq/cc. It is determined by acquiring data in all projections for a given duration from a volume of activity (uniformly mixed) and dividing the total counts by the duration of counting and by the concentration of the activity in the source. Manufacturers normally use this unit as a specification for the PET scanners. The detailed method of determining volume sensitivity is described under acceptance tests in this chapter. The volume sensitivities of PET scanners from different manufacturers are given in Table 6.1. [Pg.102]

Support for specific research projects by firms that use the techniques of biotechnology in their R D totaled between 85 and 135 million in 1984, or between 8 and 24 percent of all funds available for biomedical research in academia (51),8 Spending per project was less than the average size of NIH grants, and they were typically of a shorter duration suggesting industrially supported research can be more focused and applied in nature than that funded by government (51,483). [Pg.208]

Now a second European project has started. It is called Intelligent column internals for reactive distillation (INTINT) and deals specifically with the design of suitable column internals adapted to the requirements of reaction and distillation, not only of distillation, as is the case with normal packing. Again, experimental results and simulation tools are the key subjects. The project duration is 3 years, up to 2003, and the budget is comparable with that of the first EU project. [Pg.34]

Once construction starts, the appointed project manager assumes responsibility for the project on behalf of the organization and through the general contractor utilizes the architects and the electrical and mechanical consultants as appropriate for the duration of the project. On completion, a commissioning phase is entered, wherein the installed systems are checked and calibrated according to the design specifications, at which point, subject to minor deficiencies, the facility can be turned over to the owner. [Pg.979]

This view is more conq)lex than previous process-based attempts to capture software reliability using BBNs. It takes the view that a phase is associated with a set of processes (e.g. a requirements specification), and these processes are subject to active updating for the duration of the project due to work in later phases. This approach allows us to capture intricate influences between phases . The generic BBN structure shown in Figure 4 presents a sub-net for each phase of the safety software life-cycle and a net for interaction among phases. The interaction net aggregates integrity estimates from multiple phases. [Pg.250]
