Dry content

The concentration of solids in the feed sludge is expressed by weight fraction c. It is also possible to evaluate experimentally the weight ratio of wet cake to its dry content m. Hence, a unit weight of sludge contains me of wet cake. We denote y as the specific weight of feed sludge. This quantity contains c amount of solids hence, the ratio of the mass of solids in the cake to the filtrate volume is ... [Pg.170]

Five grams of dry anion exchanger were used. The amount of each anion exchanger was calculated using the dry content (Table 1). All anion exchangers were swollen in a saturated aqueous solution of NaCl, then converted to OH form with alM solution of NaOH, and finally washed with Milli-Q water (Millipore, Billerica, MA) until the pH was neutral. [Pg.527]

Seepage example is where there is no obvious sign of leakage but liquid (or dried contents) may be found on container finish (threads) or on inner surface of cap. [Pg.313]

The solid substrates were introduced into the laccase-LD complex solutions placed in a 50 mL round bottom flasks and the mixtures were magnetically stirred at room temperature. After the end of the process the reaction products were separated and purified by the following procedure initially the mixtures were centrifuged at 2800 G force for 60 min, the clear aqueous solution of polymer-enzyme complex was filtered through 0.45 pm Whatman cellulose filter and kept at 4 C for fiirther oxidations. The yellow to brown precipitate was collected, washed twice with DI water and dried at room temperatiu e under vacuum. It was analyzed by SEC in THE. The separation of the oxidation product(s) was achieved by preparative fractionation on the same SEC system. The THE solvent in each fraction was evaporated and the dry contents were analyzed spectroscopically. The general sequence of procedures is depicted on the flow chart in Scheme 1. [Pg.114]

Any washing operation will reduce the content of downstream colloidal material. Screening is an efficient method of removing organic contaminants from the fibres. The removal can be aided by dispersants that will shift the equilibrium of depositable material adsorbed onto the fibre to depositable material in the aqueous phase. Deaerators, additives that will remove entrained air from the furnish, will increase dry content of the fibre cake and thereby reduce the carry over of water over the wash filter. This will lead to an overall downstream reduction in colloidal material. [Pg.28]

Different properties of the prepared dry adsorbed emulsions were examined (yield value, deteiminadon of dry content, measurement of angle of repose, deter-iiiinatlou of flow rate, density, bulk density, percentage of porosity, particle size analysis. Karl Fisher titrimetry. drug release study, stability study) and the most appropriate selected for in vivo investigation. [Pg.375]

It also showed that a simple variation of fabrication properties such as slurry dry content and electrode drying temperature do not influence considerably the cycle performance of the composite silicon-carbon electrode. Therefore, the electrode structure and its mechanical properties should be tailored in order to make its cycle life sufficiently long. Taking into account these factors allowed preparation of... [Pg.260]

For an exact initial mass of the polymer, the net amount of polymer in the sample has to be determined. For hygroscopic polymers (like the water-soluble polymer PA Am), the dry content of the polymer has to be known. The dry content of the polymer can be determined via thermogravimetric methods or lyophilization. In addition to this, the salt content of the polymer (for commercial ionic polymers up to 30%) or the content of other foreign matter has to be determined, for example via reprecipitation or washing of the sample. When this is done, it is advisable to define a standard unit for the concentration. Since the unit for the intrinsic vis-... [Pg.29]

Economic Aspects. In 2000, approximately 1.4 x 10 t of poly(vinyl acetate) emulsions and resins (dry content, including copolymers) were produced in North America, Western Europe, and Japan. The United States accounted for 50% of production, Western Europe accoimted for 39%, Japan accoimted for ca 9%, and the remainder was attributed to Canada and Mexico (140). [Pg.8872]

From the pulpers, the slurry is pumped into the presses, where the alkali cellulose (AC) is pressed to achieve about 50 % dry content. After delibration, the slurry is fed into the preripening systems. Once there, the AC is pre-ripened to gain an average degree of polymerisation and an even viscosity. The pre-ripening process can be accelerated by adding a catalyst (e.g. cobalt chloride). [Pg.176]

Treatment of short circuit of the machine. This is a key application in paper making 100 to 300 cubic meters of water are recirculating very fast in the wet end part to form the paper web. The diluted stock enters the headbox between 0.5 and 1% consistency to form the paper web that will drain on a wire to remove free water make a paper sheet with a dry content around 20 to 25%. This sheet will then be pressed between press rolls and felts to remove the water bound to the fibers and reach around 50% dry content. [Pg.386]

Now the water cannot be removed any more by mechanical means, and drying using big drums heated by steam will allow to reach 95% dry content. [Pg.386]
