The decision to send samples off site is made by the ITL in consultation with the ACs of the inspection team. The ITL will send a request to the Director-General, asking permission to send samples for off-site analysis. The approval of this request will trigger various activities at the HQ and on site. [Pg.44]

Transport and delivery of sample containers from the Point of Exit to the OPCW Laboratory and from the OPCW Laboratory to the designated laboratories is subcontracted to a specialist company. The Director-General will appoint an OPCW staff member to escort the samples during transportation to the extent possible and to hand carry the respective documentation. [Pg.45]

Seventeen States Parties (SP) have volunteered to provide services of their high-level chemical analytical laboratories to the Organization for prohibition of the Chemical Weapons (OPCW). From these SPs, 18 laboratories (2004) have been designated by the Director-General (DG) of the OPCW to perform analyses as part of the implementation of the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC) (1). For the purpose of effective implementation, for example, analysis of samples taken during inspections or... [Pg.151]

All of the source samples, except for the Lake Sevan material, were collected by Richard A. Watson of Washington University and Ibrahim T. Cakmak. This field work was facilitated by Saadettin Alpan, Director-General of the Maden Tetkik Arama Enstitutu, and funded by the National Science Foundation through support of the Turkish Prehistoric Project under the direction of Robert J. Braidwood and Halet Cambel. The Lake Sevan samples were provided by J. Allen of Dumbarton Oaks. [Pg.23]

For biological samples to be sent out of India, an export license must be applied to and issued by the Director General of Foreign Trade. This is valid only for six months, so a year long study will require reapplication or samples are sent at end of study within a six-month window. [Pg.676]

The designated laboratories should report their results only to the Director-General. They should not be informed of which labels corresponded to which samples, blanks or spiked blanks until the investigation has been completed and the results have been studied by the States Parties. [Pg.218]

Recalling the criteria for the designation of laboratories for the analysis of authentic samples and the retention of designated status, laid down in the Note by the Director-General (S/86/98, dated ITNovember 1998, and Coir. 1, dated 18November 1998) ... [Pg.240]

Should a designated laboratory perform unsuccessfully in a proficiency test, this will result in its temporary suspension. In this situation the laboratory will remain designated but will no longer be selected by the Director-General to receive and analyse authentic samples from the OPCW. However, it may perform other tasks as defined in C-I/DEC.67, dated 22 May 1997. Unsuccessful performance resulting in temporary suspension includes ... [Pg.241]

The Second Review Conference stressed the importance of investigations of alleged use or threat of use of chemical weapons involving States Parties. For such situations, the OPCW must have the capacity and be ready at all times to investigate the need for follow-on action by the OPCW, as well as to facilitate the delivery of assistance. In this context, the Second Review Conference noted the Scientific Advisory Board s work on the analysis of bio-medical samples and requested the Director-General to present a proposal to develop this capability as foreseen by the Council at its Forty-Fourth Session (EC-44/2, dated 17 March 2006). [Pg.525]

European Directorate General for Health and Consumer Protection (SANCO) documents provide useful guidance for validation of pesticide residue methods [32,33]. The main analytical parameters evaluated are accuracy and precision, as well as selectivity—specificity, linearity, and limit of quantification (LOQ). Accuracy and precision are normally estimated by analyzing blank samples spiked at different concentrations (Table 12.1). [Pg.325]

The operation of the scanning electron microscope was in the hands of Walter R. Brown of the National Museum of Natural History. R. M. Organ and Harold Westley of the Smithsonian Institution supplied the spectrographic results for the ink ignition tests. H. P. Stern and T. Lawton (Director and Assistant Director of the Freer Gallery of Art) are thanked for advice on the selection of paintings, for permission to sample them, and for general discussions on the history of Chinese ink. [Pg.231]
