Diesel Clean

The trick is to meet EuroVI at affordable cost, while retaining the fuel economy and drivability attributes that are keys to Diesel s acceptance in the marketplace. Now the question is what is the best way to meet it A variety of options must be considered cost, robustness, complexity and application constraints. As 2007 begins, car manufacturers and suppliers are scrambling to make sure that, whatever they commit to in production, it will not be more costly than what the other companies devise. Over the past few years and for a long time, Diesel clean-up has been a very competitive and strategic field. [Pg.233]

The DOE National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has also assisted FTA by performing evaluations of advanced technology (AT) HEBs, EBs, and FCBs [7]. The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has also facilitated the adoption of green diesel-electric hybrid school and transit buses through its Clean Diesel, Clean Bus, and SmartWay programs as well as recent ARRA awards [8]. [Pg.179]

The role of detergent additives is to maintain clean injectors so as to insure good distribution of diesel fuel in the cylinder. The structure of these compounds is similar to that of detergents for gasoline engine admission systems. Commercialized compounds are from the succinimide family (see Figure 9.1). [Pg.350]

The benefits of alcohol fuels include increased energy diversification in the transportation sector, accompanied by some energy security and balance of payments benefits, and potential air quaUty improvements as a result of the reduced emissions of photochemically reactive products (see Air POLLUTION). The Clean Air Act of 1990 and emission standards set out by the State of California may serve to encourage the substantial use of alcohol fuels, unless gasoline and diesel technologies can be developed that offer comparable advantages. [Pg.420]

The exacting Hst of specification requirements for aviation gas turbine fuels and the constraints imposed by deUvering clean fuel safely from refinery to aircraft are the factors that affect the economics. Compared with other distillates such as diesel and burner fuels, kerosene jet fuels are narrow-cut specialized products, and usually command a premium price over other distillates. The prices charged for jet fuels tend to escalate with the basic price of cmde, a factor which seriously underrnined airline profits during the Persian Gulf war as cmde prices increased sharply. [Pg.417]

Chlorotoluene isomer mixtures, especially those containing a relatively high amount of o-chlorotoluene, are widely used as solvents in industry for such purposes as metal-cleaning formulations, railroad industrial cleaners, diesel fuel additives, carbon removal procedures, paint thinners, and agricultural chemicals. Halso 99 andHalso 125 are examples of such solvents. [Pg.56]

Effective with the 1982 model year, particulate matter from diesel vehicles was regulated by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for the first time, at a level of 0.37 gm km . Diesel vehicles were allowed to meet an NO level of 0.93 gm km under an Environmental Protection Agency waiver. These standards were met by a combination of control systems, primarily exhaust gas recirculation and improvements in the combustion process. For the 1985 model year, the standards decreased to 0.12 gm of particulate matter per kilometer and 0.62 gm of NO per kilometer. This required the use of much more extensive control systems (1). The Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 (2) have kept the emission standards at the 1985 model level with one exception diesel-fueled heavy trucks shall be required to meet an NO standard of 4.0 gm per brake horsepower hour. [Pg.526]

Small concentrations of volatile components in a liquid mixture may accumulate in the vapor space of a container over time and appreciably reduce the flash point relative to the reported closed-cup value. This may be the result of degassing, chemical reaction or other mechanism. An example is bitumen [162]. Similarly, if a tank truck is not cleaned between deliveries of gasoline and a high flash point liquid such as kerosene or diesel oil, the mixture might generate a flammable atmosphere both in the tmck tank and the receiving tank. Contamination at the thousand ppm level may create hazards (5-1.4.3 and 5-2.5.4). Solids containing upward of about 0.2 wt% flammable solvent need to be evaluated for flammable vapor formation in containers (6-1.3.2). [Pg.85]

The clean-burning nature of natural gas has for many years made it the fuel of choice for heating and cooking. If Its energy content per cubic meter were comparable to liquid fuels like such as diesel and gasoline, it would be ideal as a transportation fuel as well. However, the void is wide. Whereas gasoline and diesel deliver 110,000 to 120,000 Btu per gallon. [Pg.828]

The passage of the Clean Air Act Amendment (CAAA) on November 15, 1990, started a process for regulating the composition and quality of gasoline and diesel fuels sold in the United States. The CAAA s intent was to improve the nation s air quality by reducing ozone and other air pollutants. Title II of the CAAA requires the manufacture and sale of cleaner fuels in order to reduce evaporative and combustible emission of ... [Pg.308]

Desulfurization processes are absolutely necessary for producing clean fuels. Possible strategies to realize ultradeep suffiirization currently include adsorption, extraction, oxidation, and bioprocesses. Oxidative desulfurization (ODS) combined with extraction is considered one of the most promising of these processes [13]. Ultradeep desulfurization of diesel by selective oxidation with amphiphilic catalyst assembled in emulsion droplets has given results where the sulfur level of desulfurized diesel can be lowered from 500 ppm to about 0.1 ppm without changing the properties of the diesel [12]. [Pg.146]

End of Abstract Nowadays, the Diesel vehicles market in Western Europe keeps growing. Diesel technology is of interest for car manufacturers because the Greenhouse gas emissions are noticeably lower with Diesel than with gasoline (do not forget the ACEA1 commitment for 2008 140 g/km of C02 for the new cars sold in European Union). A major issue for the Diesel vehicles is to clean-up HC, CO, NO and soot particles released by the engine at a minimum cost. [Pg.212]
