The inventory tasks is to collect environmentally important information about relevant processes involved in the product system. Inventory collects information about unit processes at first and subsequently, an inventory of inputs and outputs of the system and its surroundings is carried out. The goal is the identification and quantification of all elementary flows associated with product system. Inventory analysis is the nature of the technical implementation of LCA studies. It is an essential part of a study, has high demands for data availability, practical experience in modelling product systems and, in the case of using database tools, it is necessary to master them perfectly and to understand their function [46]. Vast tabulations of 13C chemical shift data have been assembled in computer searchable form. These databases form the basis for 13C chemical shift prediction algorithms. For the most part, carbon chemical shifts can be calculated using what is referred to as a Hierarchically Ordered Spherical Environment (HOSE) code approach [28]. To calculate a given carbon s chemical shift, the influence of each successive spherical shell is applied to the starting chemical shift for that carbon to calculate its overall chemical shift. Typically, programs will calculate shifts for 3 or 4 layers, beyond which the effects of most substituents are negligible. Monitoring data have not shown cresols to be widely occurring atmospheric pollutants. The National Ambient Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) Database, a compilation of published and unpublished air monitoring data from 1970 to 1987, contained very little information on the cresols (Shah and Heyerdahl 1989). The database contained only information for o-cresol in source-dominated atmospheres (air surrounding a facility or known release of the chemical in question). To quantitatively describe the location of an amino acid in relation to the protein surface, different measures of solvent exposure have been developed. The whole database access code is surrounded by a try-finally block. There is no catch because the exceptions are rethrown by the code. However, the finally block is necessary because the ResultSet, Statement, and Connection objects must be closed properly whether an exception is thrown, or otherwise there will be database resource leaks. The database cleanup is implemented in a Util class. The initialization of the Connection object is purposely left out from the code. Tremendous amounts of information from the experimental methods of X-ray crystallography and (NMR) spectroscopy and from in silico modeling have been entered into databases, and this information is shared by many researchers worldwide. Once the amino acid residue sequence of a new protein of interest has been identified, it is intuitively of interest to search these databases for well-characterized proteins with similar sequences, to note their function, and to consider the possibility that the function of the new protein may be similar.
