Consolidant material

The blanks of this consolidated material can be shaped in steel tools by heating under pressure to a semi-molten state. The matrix is generally polypropylene (in more than 95% of GMTs) or, more rarely, thermoplastic polyester. 

Similar to cleaning operations, consolidation and adhesion treatments are usually under analytical control. Measurements of the chemical, morphological, and physical properties of the consolidated material are indispensable to assure the efficiency of the operation. Changes in mechanical strength, color, and gloss, as well as chemical composition are assessed. Studies of stability of consolidants are frequently performed by means of namral and accelerated aging trials.

During development, evaluation of the consolidated materials was based primarily on two criteria, leachability and the concentration factor, i.e., the concentration of waste oxides on a volume basis. The concentration factor is directly affected by the residual porosity in a consolidated waste as well as by the dilution caused by the addition of consolidation aids. This factor can be as high as 1.2 g/cm3 for a fully dense ( 5 g/cm ) titanate waste prepared from the projected Barnwell plant solution composition. The factor is slightly lower for a titanate waste containing silicon and zeolite additions, which has a typical density of U.2 g/cm3. The leachability was determined by an "instantaneous leach test developed for fast, comparative evaluations of materials, the details of which are described elsewhere (l6). 

A solid containing voids or pore spaces. Normally such pores are quite small compared with the size of the solid and are well-distributed throughout the solid. In geologic formations porosity can be associated with unconsolidated (uncemented) materials, such as sand, or a consolidated material, such as sandstone. 

Time consolidation/dense packing For many materials, if allowed to sit in a hopper over a long period of time, the particles tend to rearrange themselves so that they become more tightly packed together. The consolidated materials flow less easily and tend to bridge or rat-hole. 

To cure the effects of degradation, various polymeric consolidation materials were applied to artificially degraded cloth. Because long-term stability and ultimate consequences of treatment were not determined, recommendations for this use were not given (10).

Consolidated Material All the essential items of apparatus, equipments, chemicals etc. are arranged in such a way that any item can be put to multipurpose use. In this way material is consolidated in a chemistry kit. Moreover all the material needed for an experiment is consolidated in the kit.

Porous media can be classified as unconsolidated and consolidated materials. Soils, clays, and packings of various sorts belong to the first class, while rocks such as sandstones and limestones belong to the second. Both classes are investigated in this section. The first two subsections are devoted to ordered or random systems of particles, and the third to a different model of consolidated rocks, based on the classical reconstruction technique [26,34]. Finally, a formula valid in the thick double layer limit is used to gather all the numerical results and also some experimental results found in the literature.
