Test methods available are the free-running test (galvanic cell), galvano-static test (constant current) and potentiostatic test (constant potential). These are always run in conjunction with visual examinations with particular emphasis on dissolution pattern. [Pg.151]

At 10Hz in a typical Nd-YAG laser 1000Hz/- /Hz, and the typical finesse asymmetry is of the order of one percent. In order to detect a gw signal the laser frequency noise has to be lowered by six orders of magnitudes (compared to the noise of a free running laser), and the two arms made as identical as possible. In order to achieve this complex frequency stabilization methods are employed in all interferometric detectors, and in order to insure the perfect symmetry of the interferometer, all pairs of Virgo optical components are coated during the same run (both Fabry-Perot input mirrors then both end mirrors are coated simultaneously). [Pg.322]

Added to the mash, these enzyme activities decrease its viscosity and improve its pressability. The free run juice volume is larger. The yield and then the capacity of the press are increased. [Pg.457]

For some parameter values the model for the mammalian clock fails to allow entrainment by 24-h LD cycles, regardless of the amplitude of the light-induced change in Per expression. The question arises whether there exists a syndrome corresponding to this mode of dynamic behavior predicted by the model. Indeed there exists such a syndrome, known as the non-24-h sleep-wake syndrome, in which the phase of the sleep-wake pattern continuously varies with respect to the LD cycle that is, the patient free-runs in LD conditions [117]. Disorders of the sleep-wake cycle associated with alterations in the dynamics of the circadian clock belong to the broad class of dynamical diseases [122, 123], although the term syndrome seems more appropriate for some of these conditions. [Pg.271]

As a necessary preliminary to the study of how compositional heterogeneity affects the properties of the polymers, compositionally heterogeneous and homogeneous co- and terpolymers had to be synthesised. It Is common in copolymerisations for the relative reactivity of the co-monomers to be different (5) so that during polymerisations carried out to high conversion In a free-running batch reactor, the Initially formed polymer Is richer In the more reactive monomer, whereas, at the end of the reaction the polymer produced contains a greater proportion of the less reactive monomer. In such circumstances, compositional... [Pg.328]

Compositionally uniform copolymers of tributyltin methacrylate (TBTM) and methyl methacrylate (MMA) are produced in a free running batch process by virtue of the monomer reactivity ratios for this combination of monomers (r (TBTM) = 0.96, r (MMA) = 1.0 at 80°C). Compositional ly homogeneous terpolymers were synthesised by keeping constant the instantaneous ratio of the three monomers in the reactor through the addition of the more reactive monomer (or monomers) at an appropriate rate. This procedure has been used by Guyot et al 6 in the preparation of butadiene-acrylonitrile emulsion copolymers and by Johnson et al (7) in the solution copolymerisation of styrene with methyl acrylate. [Pg.329]

Mice lacking crjptochromes lose free-running circadian rhythms hut maintain photic input to the SCN... [Pg.33]

The decreased behavioural photoresponsiveness in cryptochrome-mutant mice is somewhat difficult to interpret since these mice also lack free-running circadian rhythms. Therefore, one is measuring masking, not circadian responses. Although masking is also preserved in retinal-degenerate animals (Mrosovsky et al 2000), the neural and molecular mechanisms of masking are not as well understood as those of circadian rhythms. [Pg.35]

A somewhat different view is supported by a number of other studies. Behavioural rhythmicity persists in SCN-lesioned rodents under the influence of either periodically available food (Davidson Stephan 1999, Stephan et al 1979) or continuous treatment with methamphetamine (Honma et al 1992). Rhythmicity of at least some circadian genes persists in isolated peripheral tissues for periods of time ranging from several days to two or three weeks (Yamazaki et al 2000, our unpublished results). Removal of the retina (which is known to contain its own circadian oscillator Tosini Menaker 1996) changes the distribution of free-running periods of locomotor activity and the duration of active time (a) (Yamazaki et al 2002a). To pursue our metaphor, these results suggest that circadian signals may be relayed to the periphery by a baton rather than a whip the SCN may indeed be the conductor of an orchestra composed of dozens, if not thousands of potentially independent oscillators. [Pg.111]
