Computer regulation

The solitary astronomer with one eye permanently held against the eyepiece of his or her telescope is an image of the past. Today, we see with computer-regulated instruments, using the new techniques of active or adaptive optics. [Pg.40]

Different extrusion profile processes can be used such as a robotic profile. A robot delivers the hot melt over or around a substrate. This robotic extrusion process can uses a flexible, heated, high-pressure hose that is connected to the extruder s die exit. The hot melt travels through the hose. At the end of the hose is a nozzle the tip of this nozzle is, in effect the actual profile die. A computer-regulated multiaxis robot controls the positioning of the profile nozzle die. The nozzle/die is guided by the robot to deposit the profile s hot melt on, as an example, a substrate that is on a multi-station rotating table supporting other substrates to be covered. [Pg.257]

Herbicides are also sometimes classified according to mode of action, selectivity, registered uses, and toxicity. The ever-increasing importance of herbicides and other pesticides and agrochemicals to a wide range of users, regulators, and researchers has led to the development of multiple and extensive computer databases. The primary database resources contain collected information relevant to herbicides, and numerous resource pubHcations are available to those needing information on the various aspects of herbicides (2). [Pg.38]

RNA structures, compared to the helical motifs that dominate DNA, are quite diverse, assuming various loop conformations in addition to helical structures. This diversity allows RNA molecules to assume a wide variety of tertiary structures with many biological functions beyond the storage and propagation of the genetic code. Examples include transfer RNA, which is involved in the translation of mRNA into proteins, the RNA components of ribosomes, the translation machinery, and catalytic RNA molecules. In addition, it is now known that secondary and tertiary elements of mRNA can act to regulate the translation of its own primary sequence. Such diversity makes RNA a prime area for the study of structure-function relationships to which computational approaches can make a significant contribution. [Pg.446]

The following flowsheet represents the simplest connections combined with good, inexpensive manual regulation required to execute valid experiments. This is the recommended minimum starting installation that can be expanded and made more sophisticated as need and budgets permit. The other extreme, a fully computer controlled and evaluated system that can be run without personnel will be shown later. The concepts, mentioned in Chapter 3, are applied here for the practical execution of experiments in recycle reactors. [Pg.83]

The modern DDC controller has only the control function PID. PLC controllers used in process installations may contain more complex regulation functions, for example, the fuzzy or auto-tuning of PID functions. Most DDC controllers are self-sufficient and independent of the controllers or computer programs that are used for system configuration. [Pg.776]

They are suited for the technical (HVAC) processes in buildings and include installed and tested computer programs, which cover the most common forms of controlling and regulating in a typical HVAC plant, such as... [Pg.776]

To avoid this problem for lithium-ion batteries consisting out of non-overcharge-able cells, computer-controlled charging systems regulate the voltage for each single cell. [Pg.17]

Uninterrupted power supply for computers, initially only for central units, grew significantly with the introduction of personal computers (PCs) the batteries became smaller and, since they had to be located in offices, had to be in a sealed version, since no aggressive charging gases were permitted to escape. This advanced the breakthrough of the development of so-called recombination or valve-regulated... [Pg.255]

Computers permeate all areas of the plastics industry from the concept of a product design, to raw material, to processing, to marketing, to sales, to recycling, to government and industry regulations, and so on. Computers have their place, but most important is... [Pg.27]

Alpha-quartz has many useful properties which lead to its wide use in industry as a glass, ceramic and molecular sieve. However, undoubtedly its most technically important use occurs by virtue of its piezo-electric properties, which allow it to be used as a frequency regulating device in satellites, computers, and the ubiquitous quartz-watch . Unfortunately, it has been found that quartz crystals are susceptible to damage by radiation, and that this is associated with the presence of defects in the crystal lattice. These defects, particularly aluminum and hydrogen, are grown into the crystal and so far have proved impossible to remove. This problem has been the cause of intensive research, which has led to some information on the possible types of defects involved, but has failed to produce details of their geometries, and the way in which they interact. [Pg.70]
