Installation start

Exhibit 5-2 shows three sample project installation strategies. Each example shows one possible implementation strategy. Variations on these will almost certainly be required to meet local circumstances. Example 1 envisages shared responsibility for the project with local staff. Example 2 shows local staff taking the lead and Example 3 shows minimal involvement of local staff. Other combinations of responsibilities and the use of other resources are also possible. Constant in all the examples is the development of management processes ahead of programs and elements, and the provision of local training before installation starts. 

Safety (relief, or safety-relief) valves are used for set pressures from 10 psig to 10,000 psig and even higher. At the low pressures the sensitivity to relieving pressure is not always as good as is required for some processes, and for this reason most valve installations start at 15 to 20 psig. 

In all large and complex systems developed by contract developers, it is normally the practice to perform an SAT. The SAT is the set of activities comprising the system installation, start-up, operational testing, and user orientation performed by the software supplier/integrator in the operational environment. For the purposes of this book, the operational testing performed as part of the SAT is also known as the OQ2. If the SAT is conducted according to approved protocols, test results are properly documented, and test results reviewed and approved by the user and QA, it may not be necessary to repeat the installation and operational qualifications. This provides cost savings and can streamline the validation process. Refer to Sidebar 10-2. 

The SAT is an acceptance test comprising system installation, start-up, operational testing, and handover to customer, performed by the supplier/ integrator in the operational environment. As with the FAT, the user s representative should witness the tests and evaluate the results of the SAT.

Install start/stop switches at each door location in the outer shell to allow depressurization of the annulus prior to opening the door-The usual internal pressure on a chimney man door approximates a gale force wind, potentially hazardous to personnel entering and exiting.
