Compressor houses

The leaks that lead to explosions in compressor houses are often not from a compressor but from other equipment, such as pipe joints. One such leak occurred because a spiral-wound gasket had been replaced by a compressed asbestos fiber one, probably as temporary measure, seven years earlier. Once installed, it was replaced by a similar one during subsequent maintenance [30]. [Pg.69]

To prevent leaks of carbon monoxide and hydrogen from the glands of a number of compressors getting into the atmosphere of the compressor house, they were sucked away by a fan and discharged through a small vent stack. Air leaked into the duct because there was a poor seal between the duct and the compressor. The mixture of air and gas was ignited by lightning. [Pg.138]

Where such seals are unfavourable, for example, with horizontally split compressor housings, structural measures, such as the use of vertically split barrel housings, are used to guarantee a reliable seal. The clamping and sealing of diaphragms for diaphragm pumps and compressors requires special static seals [5,29],... [Pg.180]

Most screw compressors are of the oil-lubricated type. There are two types—the semihermetic and the open-drive type. In the former, the motor is located in the same housing as the compressor, while in the latter the motor is located outside of the compressor housing and thus requires a shaft seal. The only moving parts in screw compressors are two intermeshing helical rotors. The rotors consist of one male lobe, which functions as a rolling piston, and a female flute, which acts as a cylinder. Since rotary screw compression is a continuous positive-displacement process, no surges are created in the system. [Pg.183]

Underground, the mine is crossed by a major slip-fault, with the result that one half of the workings is about 20 feet lower than the other. Two sloping haulageways were driven to connect the upper and lower sections to enable wagons to be drawn up these inclines two steam winches were installed, adapted to operate on compressed air supplied by compressors housed on the surface. Generally, however, loaded trucks were manoeuvred manually throughout the level areas of the quarry. [Pg.25]

On Figure 7-6 the feed gas-compressor has been separated from the refrigeration compressors. The savings in piping and construction cost justified building two compressor houses. [Pg.193]

With turbine surface condensers, it often pays to choose a pump with a low NPSH, especially when die condenser is directly below the turbine. The compressor house floor can be lowered. With the lower elevated condenser, operation and maintenance access is improved. Vertical pumps are usually specified with a minimum height from grade to equipment because their suction inlet nozzle is below grade. [Pg.195]

HERMETIC COMPRESSOR - Compressor which has the driving motor sealed inside the compressor housing. The motor operates in an atmosphere of the refrigerant. [Pg.84]

The thermal barriers have found applications as protective layers, for example steel surfaces of pistons and cylinders in Diesel engines and compressors housing parts of aircraft engines, made of titanium alloys, and working surfaces of exhaust nozzles, made of niobium alloys. Moreover, TBCs are widely used in gas turbine hot section components such as burners, transition ducts, shrouds, blades, and vanes [6]. [Pg.132]

Seals provided at the shaft penetrations of the compressor housing are labyrinth seals, floating ring gaskets, and a static seal. [Pg.241]

The shaft with the attached impellers is supported by lubricated bearings arranged outside the compressor housing. The bearing housings are accessible from the outside without dismantling the main housing. [Pg.241]

In sheet-metal-forming technology, the drawability of the deep-drawn containers (e.g., oil filters and compressor housings) [37] can be predicted from the average normal anisotropy, r, in the sheet, given by... [Pg.33]

The 19.1 kg (42 lb) of uranium-oil contained within the compressor was distributed over a large portion of the internal compressor surface. If during compressor removal and disassembly the uranium-oil material settled to the bottom of the compressor housing, it would approximately occupy a segment of a 20-in.-diam sphere having a depth of S in. The keff of such an accumulation was found to be well below critical. Because significantly more uranium-oil mixture could conceivably accumulate in a compressor, several additional KENO-IV calculations were made with... [Pg.780]

The power house, compressor house, and all buildings housing ventiiating equipment, shall be provided with at ieast one hose connection in the water iine, with a fire hose connected thereto. A fire hose shall be maintained within reach of structures of wood over or near shafts. [Pg.704]
