An important aspect of studying metastable dissociation of these clusters is that the measurements enable a determination of the surface composition of mixed systems. This is important in designing experiments to study the heterogeneous chemistry of aqueous systems. For example, the loss channel of H20 is found to be open to all (H20)n(CH30H)mH+ except (H20)(CH3OH)mH+ for which the water loss is relatively small. For the water-rich composition mixed clusters, the results show that water molecules have a tendency to build a cage structure in the cluster size region m + n = 21, with 0 < m < 8. [Pg.247]

An interesting aside to this discussion concerns the composition mix assumed in the theoretical models. Recent measurements have suggested that the solar O abundance might be 0.2 dex lower than previously believed [1]. A change of this size in the model compositions could lead to significantly less PMS Li depletion among solar-type stars, reducing the discrepancy between the Li depletion predicted by solar-tuned convective models and the ZAMS cluster data. [Pg.169]

Once a particular class of unit has been decided upon, the choice of a specific unit depends on initial and operating costs, the space available, the type and size of the product, the characteristics of the feed liquor, the need for corrosion resistance and so on. Particular attention must be paid to liquor mixing zones since the circulation loop includes many regions where flow streams of different temperature and composition mix. These are all points at which temporary high supersaturations may occur causing heavy nucleation and hence encrustation, poor performance and operating instabilities. As Toussaint and Donders(72) stresses, it is essential that the compositions and enthalpies of mixer streams are always such that, at equilibrium, only one phase exists under the local conditions of temperature and pressure. [Pg.863]

The geometries for asymmetric mixed-matrix membranes include flat sheets, hollow fibers and thin-fihn composites. The flat sheet asymmetric mixed-matrix membranes are formed into spirally wound modules and the hollow fiber asymmetric mixed-matrix membranes are formed into hollow fiber modules. The thin-film composite mixed-matrix membranes can be fabricated into either spirally wound or hollow fiber modules. The thin-film composite geometry of mixed-matrix membranes enables selection of different membrane materials for the support layer and low-cost production of asymmetric mixed-matrix membranes utilizing a relatively high-cost zeolite/polymer separating layer on the support layer. [Pg.343]

Requirement (c) will not be met for soot which contributes to extinction primarily by absorption. For this reason, a satisfactory linear relationship is more likely to be found for aged aerosols (particle compositions mixed by coagulation) only between scattering due to particles and the mass concentrations ... [Pg.127]

Ether-oxyline Explosives, patented in England in 1852 1853 by Winiwarter, were based on ether-oxyline which was a soln of Pyroxylin in 2 parts by wt of ether. It was presumably used as a binder. Daniel (Ref 1) lists the following compositions mixed with ether-oxyline ... [Pg.62]

Triplicate aliquots were taken for particle size analysis and two of those aliquots were mixed for BET surface area analysis results are in Table III. The nine samples were individually sieved for size distribution. A chi-squared test was performed on each triplicate set in order to check the apparent efficiency of composite mixing. For all three composite samples, there was a 90 percent probability that each of the three replicates from each composite sample came from the same population. The A and C samples were combined and evaluated for surface area by nitrogen adsorption (BET). The B samples were then subjected to scanning electron microscopy (SEM) analysis. [Pg.98]

Oxysulphides.—The action of carbon bisulphide vapour or hydrogen sulphide on niobium pentoxide, sodium niobate or niobium oxytrichloride gives rise to a black powder which assumes a metallic appearance on being rubbed, and which conducts electricity well. This is probably an oxysulphide of niobium, Nba.OJ,Sz, but its exact composition varies with the experimental conditions, and its individuality is a matter of doubt.5 Oxysulphides of niobium of doubtful composition, mixed with potassium sulphide, are also produced by the action of carbon bisulphide vapour on potassium oxalo-niobate. ... [Pg.169]

The reason for this is that the linear relationship between In k and composition (mixing ratio of two iso-eluotropic binary mixtures) is not rigorously valid. A careful examination shows that the observed lines for In k vs. composition are slightly and systematically curved [576,577]. [Pg.222]

Trinitroxylene is used as an additive for fusible explosive compositions mixed with TNT, with TNT and picric acid, or with ammonium nitrate (Vol. III). For the compositions of various eutectics with trinitroxylene see p. 400. [Pg.401]

Subjects made complete collections of urine and stools throughout each study. Feces for each subject were divided into period lots representing food eaten during each period by use of fecal dyes (brilliant blue and carmine red) and colored glass beads, composited, mixed and sampled for later analyses. Urine for each subject for each day was composited on the basis of time, diluted to a constant volume with distilled water, mixed, sampled and frozen for later analyses. Fasting blood samples were drawn at the beginning of each study and at the end of each experimental period. [Pg.137]

Data Acquisition and Control System. Computer-based system that controls all parameters of HPLC instrument (eluent composition (mixing of different solvents) temperature, injection sequence, etc.) and acquires data from the detector and monitors system performance (continuous monitoring of the mobile-phase composition, temperature, backpressure, etc.). [Pg.10]

Stahl elaborated a more complex, hierarchical composition of bodies. All natural bodies were either simple or compound. Simple bodies were principles. Compound bodies had three levels of composition mix d, compound, and aggregate. Principles composed mixts directly. Mixts, in turn, composed compounds and aggregates. In other words, one had to make a distinction between the original mixts ( mixts consisting of principles ) and the secondary mixts ( bodies compounded of mixts ). Ideally, principles had to be simple substances that existed in the mixts before chemical analysis and to which mixts were resolved after the analysis, as had long been prescribed in the French didactic tradition ... [Pg.171]
