Mixed composition

Borolane products of mixed composition can be synthesized by direct addition of boric acid to pentaerythritol (23). [Pg.464]

Moleculady mixed composites of montmorillonite clay and polyimide which have a higher resistance to gas permeation and a lower coefficient of thermal expansion than ordinary polyimides have been produced (60). These polyimide hybrids were synthesized using montmorillonite intercalated with the ammonium salt of dodecylamine. When polymerized in the presence of dimethyl acetamide and polyamic acid, the resulting dispersion was cast onto glass plates and cured. The cured films were as transparent as polyimide. [Pg.330]

Anthracite. Anthracite is preferred to other forms of coal (qv) in the manufacture of carbon products because of its high carbon-to-hydrogen ratio, its low volatile content, and its more ordered stmcture. It is commonly added to carbon mixes used for fabricating metallurgical carbon products to improve specific properties and reduce cost. Anthracite is used in mix compositions for producing carbon electrodes, stmctural brick, blocks for cathodes in aluminum manufacture, and in carbon blocks and brick used for blast furnace linings. [Pg.498]

For a coarse-grained (particle containing) graphite, the system depicted in Figure 1 is typical. The nin-of-kiln coke is brought in on railroad cars and emptied into pits where the coke is conveyed to an elevator. The elevator feeds a second conveyor that empties the coke into any one of a number of storage silos where the coke is kept dry. The manufacturer usually specifies a maximum moisture content in the incoming coke at about 0.1—0.2% to ensure that mix compositions are not altered by fluctuations in moisture content. [Pg.501]

LEED, namely one with a, c(2x2) and one with a, p(2x2) superstructure. They are compatible with CusPt and CusPta layers. The first atomic layer was in both cases found by means of photoemission of adsorbed xenon to be pure copper. Details of the experimental work can be found in ref. 9 and 10. A schematic view of both structures can be seen in figure 1. Both consist of alternating layers of pure copper and of mixed composition. In the CuaPt case, the second and all other evenly numbered layers have equal numbers of copper and platinum atoms, whereas in the CusPta case the evenly numbered layers consist of thrice as many platinum as copper atoms. [Pg.246]

Schutt reported that the coke breeze specification and conditions in which the mix is prepared are important factors in determining the optimum operation of the conductive cement mix, whilst further details on the coke breeze asphalt mix composition are given by AndersonConductive concrete mixes, with a polymer binder have also been developed as an anode system specifically for reinforced concrete cathodic protection systems . [Pg.189]

Note that the dead space volume is treated as having a uniform well-mixed composition. [Pg.442]

Additives often form a problem in recycling processes. Material recycling is often not possible or only with a considerable loss of quality. Plastics recycling is notoriously difficult due to the mixed composition of the plastics waste stream. The recycled material can only be used in certain applications that do not demand a pure material. Recycling of the additives themselves is theoretically possible only for metals, but in practice this type of recycling is not feasible. The metals occur only in low concentrations. Recovery from fly ash and bottom ash is possible, but expensive in view of growing scarcity problems it may become a viable options for at least some metals. [Pg.19]

Simple mixtures of this type have little resistance to water and are suitable for use only under the driest conditions. Many methods have been used for giving water resistance to these explosives, particularly to the milled varieties which tend to be less satisfactory in this respect than the hot mixed compositions. A small proportion of wax may be used, particularly if mixed in hot, but this tends to desensitise the explosive. Greater success is achieved by the addition of calcium soaps such as calcium stearate, in finely divided form. These also cause some desensitisation, but to an extent which is less marked in proportion to the degree of waterproofness achieved. [Pg.55]

Outside container material Performance of a pyrotechnic mixture can be affected to a substantial extent oy the type of material used to contain the mixed composition. If a good thermal conductor, such as a metal, is used, heat may be carried away from the composition through the wall of the container to the surroundings. The thickness... [Pg.54]

Place a small pile of the mixed composition on the fireproof board, insert a section of safety fuse into the base of the pile, and carefully light the end of the fuse with a match. Step back and observe the effect. Because of the generation of smoke by most pyrotechnic compositions, these tests are best conducted outdoors or in a well-ventilated area such as a laboratory fume hood. 3e certain no flammable materials are near the test area, for sparks may be produced. [Pg.208]

Despite the successes of these chemical procedures, they are still fraught with difficulties in terms of the predictability of the properties of the final products. Thus, except in a very few cases, it is impossible to predict conditions that would yield particles of a given shape. Even obtaining a desired particle size by a chemical process that can produce a monodisperse system must be established experimentally. When dealing with finely dispersed matter of internally mixed composition additional problems are encountered, because the molar ratio of constituents in the solid phase usually differs from those in solutions in which the precipitates are formed (4,5). [Pg.97]

Another generator that was successfully used in the formation of polymer colloids, particles of mixed composition, and coated particles is shown in Figure 1.5.3f, in which the falling film tube is replaced by a boiler (38). The complete apparatus described in Figure 1.5.3 makes it possible to produce cores and shells in a continuous process (39). [Pg.99]

The reaction of aerosol droplets with gases can also be used to prepare particles of internally mixed composition, such as consisting of different metal oxides. In principle, these powders can be obtained by first cocondensing vapor of the two or more volatile metal compounds (preferably alkoxides), or by nebulizing liquids of mixed composition. In both cases the droplets are then reacted with vapors. [Pg.108]

Essentially the same process can be used for the preparation of monodispersed particles of internally mixed composition. To do so, solutions containing two or more different metal salts are aged at elevated temperatures in the presence of urea. [Pg.388]

Mixed compositions are of interest mainly because they allow tuning of the semiconductor properties (most commonly bandgap and, therefore, spectral sensitivity). This is useful for various device applications. Photoconductive detectors, where a certain spectral sensitivity range is desired, is probably the main application that drove many studies on CD of ternary semiconductors. [Pg.291]
