Cobalt 01 chloride

Cobalt chloride, C0CI2. Obtained as red crystals of CoCl2 6H20 from aqueous solution, CoCU HiO and C0CI2 are blue as is the (CoCU) " ion. No higher chloride is known although cobalt-haloammines, e.g. (Co(NH3)5C1) are stable. [Pg.104]

The following simple test distinguishes fructose from all other carbohydrates. Upon heating a little fructose with dilute cobalt chloride solution, cooling and treating with a little ammonia solution, a violet to purple colour is developed, - the colour gradually fades and must be observed immediately after the addition of the ammonia solution. Green cobalt hydroxide is formed with all other carbohydrates. [Pg.456]

A typical Ziegler-Natta catalyst might be made from TiCl or TiCl and Al(C2H )3. Vanadium and cobalt chlorides are also used, as is A1(C2H3)2C1. When these substances are mixed in an inert solvent, a crystalline soHd is obtained. Color. Many water samples have a yellow to brownish-yeUow color which is caused by natural substances, eg, leaves, bark, humus, and peat material. Turbidity in a sample can make the measurement of color uncertain and is usually removed by centrifiigation prior to analysis. The color is usually measured by comparison of the sample with known concentrations of colored solutions. A platinum—cobalt solution is used as the standard, and the unit of color is that produced by 1 mg/L platinum as chloroplatinate ion. The standard is prepared from potassium chloroplatinate (K PtCl ) and cobalt chloride (C0CI26H2O). The sample may also be compared to suitably caUbrated special glass color disks. [Pg.230]
