We routinely silanate glass microscope slides that have small wells 3-5 mm in diameter that have been formed by a paint coating. These are available commercially (not silanated) from Roboz (Rockville, MD). Alternatively, cut holes in strips of vinyl electrical insulation tape using a hole punch and apply this tape to microscope slides that have previously been silanated. This tape forms small wells that contain the drops of immunoreagents that are subsequently applied. The use of small wells conserves expensive immunoreagents and allows multiple dilutions of an antibody to be tested on different wells of a single slide. Sections of the tissues are cut and deposited onto the slides. The sections are allowed to air dry at room temperature for 20-30 min prior to commencement of immunolabeling... 

Electrical insulating tapes made from silicone elastomers or silicone-resin coated glasscloth or mica paper are also widely used. Polyester or polyimide tapes are also available with heat-resistant silicone pressure-sensitive adhesive coatings.

PSAs are often supplied to the final consumer coated onto a substrate such as cellophane tape or insulating tapes based on plasticized PVC film. These consist of the backing film, a primer or key coat, and the adhesive. Tapes are flexible substrates (paper, plastic films) coated with PSAs (20-100 g dry m ) and wound up to a roll. Examples are packaging tapes, double-sided adhesive tapes, masking tapes, medical tapes, electrical insulation tapes, office and household tapes. 

RCF is sold in a variety of forms, such as loose fiber, blanket, boards, modules, cloth, cements, putties, paper, coatings, felt, vacuum-formed shapes, rope, braid, tape, and textiles. The products are principally used for industrial appHcations as insulation in furnaces, heaters, kiln linings, furnace doors, metal launders, tank car insulation, and other uses up to 1400°C. RCF-consuming industries include ferrous and nonferrous metals, petrochemical, ceramic, glass, chemical, fertiH2er, transportation, constmction, and power generation/incineration. Some newer uses include commercial fire protection and appHcations in aerospace, eg, heat shields and automotive, eg, catalytic converters, metal reinforcement, heat shields, brake pads, and airbags. 

In the special case of pipelines operating at relatively high temperatures such as for the transmission of heavy fuel oil at up to 85°C, heat insulation and electrical insulation are provided by up to 50 mm of foam-expanded polyurethane. As a further insurance against penetration of water, and to prevent mechanical damage, outer coatings of polyethylene (5 mm), butyl laminate tape (0-8 mm) or coal-tar enamel reinforced with glass fibre (2-5 mm) have been used. 

Figure 3 indicates a roof detail at an exterior wall. Note that the upper surfaces of joists are detailed to be sloped to minimize dust collection and that all interior joints are taped to prevent manufacturing components and product from entering joints. Exterior surfaces of insulation should receive a coating of weather-resistant paint.
