Shelf (elastics) Sheet-like sandbodies resulting from storms or transgression. Usually thin but very continuous sands, well sorted and coarse between marine clays. Very high productivity but high quality sands may act as thief zones during water or gas injection. Action of sediment burrowing organisms may impact on reservoir quality. [Pg.79]

In order to dry the crystals, the Buchner funnel is inverted over two or three thicknesses of drying paper (i.e., coarse-grained, smooth surfaced Alter paper) resting upon a pad of newspaper, and the crystalline cake is removed with the aid of a clean spatula several sheets of drying paper are placed on top and the crystals are pressed flrmly. To accommodate efficient heating of coarse solids, it would be desirable to break the fall of these particles during their descent by means of baffles in order to prolong their residence time, as shown schematically in Fig. 13 (Kwauk, 1979b). In this respect, a good baffle needs to cover up to 100% of the cross-sectional area traversed by vertical flow, and yet permit oblique passage as near to 100% as possible. Alliger (U.S. Patents 3,659,402,1972, and 3,905,788,1975) describes fiber-bed structures which are not random, but are rather built up from flat mesh sheets offset angularly from one layer to the next and then compressed and bonded. Aluminum dust and fine powder are highly explosive and can spontaneously burst into flames in air. When treated with acids, aluminum chips and coarse powder release hydrogen. The heat from the chemical reaction can then cause the hydrogen to burn or explode. Pure aluminum foil or sheet metal can burn in air when exposed to a hot enough flame.
