Cleaning metals vapor degreasing

Use Dry-cleaning solvent, vapor-degreasing solvent, drying agent for metals and certain other solids, vermifuge, heat-transfer medium, manufacture of fluorocarbons. [Pg.958]

Tetrachloroethylene is commercially important as a chlorinated hydrocarbon solvent and as a chemical intermediate. An estimate of the current end-use pattern for tetrachloroethylene is as follows 55% for chemical intermediates, 25% for metal cleaning and vapor degreasing, 15% for dry cleaning and textile processing, and 5% for other unspecified uses (Chemical Profile 1995). [Pg.188]

It is often necessary to remove grease, oil, or similar substances used as lubricants or temporary protective coatings during metal fabrication. Methylene chloride is used extensively for this purpose, both for cold (room temperature) cleaning and vapor degreasing of metal parts. [Pg.85]

Organic contaminants are removed by degreasing, while loose deposits are dislodged by scraping or washing with acids, alkali solutions, or other such chemicals. Metals are best cleaned by vapor degreasing with trichloro-... [Pg.78]

Metal surfaces are best cleaned by vapor degreasing, and effective aqueous systems have been developed. This treatment is followed by grit blasting to increase the adhesive contact surface area by roughening the metal surface. Chemical etching removes weakly bonded oxides from the metal surface and forms an oxide that is strongly bonded to the bulk of the part. A useful step is the priming of the part s surface, which can improve the wettability of the surface and protect it from oxidation. [Pg.37]

Trichloroethane and other chlorinated solvents are used for vapor degreasing (84—90). Other uses include cold metal cleaning, printed ckcuit board cleaning, and as a solvent for inks, coatings, adhesives, and aerosols. 1,1,1-Trichloroethane is an excellent solvent for development of photoresist polymers used in printed ckcuit board manufacture (see Integrated circuits Photoconductivepolymers). [Pg.11]

The conventional metal cleaning processes have been vapor degreasing, solvent immersion cleaning and cold cleaning. The solvents commonly used in these processes. [Pg.236]

OTHER COMMENTS used as a solvent in paint removers and as a solvent for cellulose acetate vapor degreasing solvent for metals and plastics major use as a solvent and cleaning agent in the chemical processing industry used in the pharmaceutical industry as a solvent in the production of antibiotics, steroids, and vitamins chemical intermediate for bromochlo-romethane. [Pg.745]

There are several systems for painting RIM parts. Usually, RIM parts are simply primed and painted. Before painting, however, the part is cleaned to remove mold-release agents. The most common mold releases are metal stearates (or soaps) that can be removed from the part by a water wash and paraffin waxes that are usually removed by solvent vapor degreasing. Silicone mold releases are to be avoided as they are very difficult to remove from the part, and paint will not stick to the silicone surface film. [Pg.218]

Before Further Metal Work or Treatment In many cases, parts must be prepared for a subsequent operation such as welding, heat treatment, or further machining. Vapor degreasing between steps allows the operator to start each new step with clean, dry parts. Before heat treatment, all traces of processing oils should be removed from surfaces their presence can cause smoking and nonuniform hardening. [Pg.15]

Vapor degreaser n. An apparatus in which metal surfaces are cleaned by solvent vapors. [Pg.1035]

Several surface preparations of aluminum are widely used in the aircraft industry. " The important steps in all surface preparations are vapor degrease, alkaline clean, rinse with water, chromic acid etch (FPL Etch), rinse with water, anodize with chromic acid or phosphoric acid, rinse with water, and dry at 140-160°F. Details of the procedures for the surface preparation of aluminum and other metals and composites are available from a number of sources. [Pg.335]
