A major European firm reports that they sell a half a dozen highly automated enclosed cleaning vapor degreasers and other enclosed cleaning machines within the US in a year. Total revenue from these sales is a few million dollars US. 

The anticipated useful life of a carbon steel pressure vessel in an enclosed vapor degreaser is considerably longer than that of any non-enclosed aqueous cleaning vapor degreaser. That for a stainless steel pressure vessel should be considered as nearly infinite because they are not susceptible to general corrosion .

The power of the airless enclosed cleaning vapor degreaser of Figure 2.30 is mighty — it is that solvent cleaning can be done in a totally inert environment (no water, no oxygen), or in a solvent-only environment, or mixed environment of inert (likely nitrogen gas) and solvent - at ambient pressure.

Evaporative drying rates are maximized when the temperature is increased and the pressure is reduced. Both can be managed with an airtight enclosed cleaning vapor degreaser, and not in any other. 

One may operate an airless enclosed cleaning vapor degreaser under vacuum conditions to achieve the highest possible rates of drying. In that case, the work chamber must be rated to contain full vacuum conditions, and the apparatus noted as being of the airtight type. 

Uses 1,1,1-trichloroethane was used as a solvent in numerous industrial applications such as cold and hot cleaning, vapor degreasing and in textile processing and dry cleaning. Fluorochlorohydrocarbons were made from it. The world capacity in 1984 amounted to 600 000 tonnes per year.
