Charge-control devices

Both bipolar junction transistors (BJTs) and field-effect transistors (FETs) are charge-control devices [15]. The functions of the emitter, base, and collector electrodes of the BJT are replaced by the source, drain, and gate... [Pg.543]

In addition to driving charge controlled devices such as LCDs, OFETs can also be used in current drive configurations, as shown in Fig. 7.1 (C). These architecture can be used to drive OLEDs [132], and mechanically flexible AMOLEDs have been demonstrated using OFET backplanes [133] [134]. Both voltge and current programmed circuits are possible. [Pg.104]

The electric arc furnace process accounted for about 25% of the 1982 U.S. steelmaking capacity (14). Most of the raw material used for the process is steel scrap. Pollutants generated by the electric furnace process are primarily particulate matter and CO. The furnaces are hooded, and the gas stream containing the particulate matter is collected, cooled, and passed to a bag-house for cleaning. Venturi scrubbers and ESPs are used as control devices at some mills. Charging and tapping emissions are also collected by hoods and ducted to the particulate matter control device. [Pg.507]

The spectroscopy system uses a dispersive element and a detector which is either a charge-coupled device (CCD) or a diode array. A computer is required for instrument control and for intensive data processing. [Pg.52]

An ESP is a particulate control device that uses electrical forces to move particles entrained within an exhaust stream onto collection surfaces. The basic theory has already been described under dry ESPs, but a brief summary here is included, with notable differences between the equipment. The entrained particles are given an electrical charge when... [Pg.204]

The charge control equation related to this device in the quasi-linear region is approximately given by ... [Pg.76]

Partial pressure measurement devices which are In common use comprise the measurement system proper (the sensor) and the control device required for Its operation. The sensor contains the Ion source, the separation system and the Ion trap. The separation of Ions differing In masses and charges Is often effected by utilizing phenomena which cause the Ions to resonate In electrical and magnetic fields. [Pg.95]

These dendrimers are therefore optimal candidates as charge storing devices because of the made-to-order synthetic control of the reversible exchange (storage and release) of a controlled number of electrons at a certain potential. It is worth noting that the electrochemical data offer also a fingerprint of the chemical and topological structure of the dendrimers. [Pg.173]

The wide spectrum of external conditions which can influence the conformational state of charged gels (the variation of these conditions can induce collapse or decollapse transition), makes these gels possible materials for data control devices of different types, absorbers, reactors and catalysts with regulated diffusion characteristics, carriers of immobilized enzymes, etc. The networks synthesized at high dilution are also new mechano-chemical systems which show very high sensitivity to external actions. [Pg.128]

The electrical control system is powered by means of 24-V batteries which are charged automatically from a rectified a.c. supply. All the control devices are located beyond the safety wall. The separator is monitored by a closed circuit television system. [Pg.114]

Recently, an automatic color video image analysis system was developed to quantify antigen expression (androgen receptor) (Kim et al.,T999a). This system provides a linear relationship between the antigen content and mean optical density of the immunoperoxidase-substrate reaction product. Titration of antibody, concentration, and reaction duration of the substrate can be optimized with this system. The imaging hardware consists of a Zeiss microscope, a three-chip charge-coupled-device camera, a camera control board, and a Pentium-based personal computer. [Pg.107]

Electrostatic precipitator (ESP) An air pollution control device that uses electrostatic charges to remove particles from flue gas. [Pg.448]

As described earlier, the basic design of the micropump involves a drug reservoir attached to a pumping device with or without a sensor. The inclusion of a sensor with the device makes it a closed-loop system, where the device can check the levels of marker molecules such as glucose and deliver the therapeutic agent. In many systems the devices are implanted such that the reservoir can be charged when it is exhausted. The device may pump at a basal rate or may be controlled by a circuit connected in a closed loop with a sensor or by a handheld remote control device by the patient. [Pg.416]
