This gives the name 4-butyl-2-nonene. There is a longo- chain (of ten carbon atoms), but it does not contain the double bond.

Vapor-phase alkylation of phenol with ferf-butyl alcohol in the presence of trivalent iron-substituted molecular sieve catalysts (FeMCM-41) gives para-fert-butylphenol with high regioselectivity . Supported heteropoly acid catalysts have been used in the heterogeneous alkylation reactions of 1-octene or nonene with phenol at 80-100°C. The catalyst H4SiWi204o/Si02 gives 90% para-alkylphenol and 10% orf/zo-alkylphenol. 

Dehydrochlorination.2 The reagent effects dehydrochlorination under mild conditions. Thus reaction of n-butyl chloride (1) gives the products shown. It was also used to effect the transformation (2). In this case even l,5-diazabicyclo[4.3.0]-nonene-5 did not effect the reaction.

Chen et al. prepared fluorinated acrylate resin [55] by solution polymerization of a mixture of 2-(perfluoro-( 1,1 -iti>isopropyl)-2-propenyl)oxy-ethyl methacrylate (POMA), butyl acrylate (BA), methyl methacrylate (MMA), and methacrylic acid (MA) in the co-solvents of ethyl acetate, butyl alcohol, and toluene using AIBN as initiator. First, POMA was synthesized as the starting reactants from the intermediate perfluoro nonene and 2-HEMA. Consequently, a series of fluorinated acrylate resins was synthesized with the same solid content, whereas the fluorine content in mixed monomers was varied at 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. Films of the novel fluorinated acrylate resin were made by spreading the resin on a clean Petri dish followed by drying at room temperature. Scheme 6.13 shows the synthesis pathway of the fluorinated acrylate resin.
