N- -p -butyl aniline

Glasses have also been reported for nematic p-methoxybenzylidene-p-n-butyl-aniline 66) and some commercial liquid crystals 67) and for smectic ethyl-(p-anisol-amino)-cinnamate 68), p-n-hexyloxybenzylidene-p-aminobenzoic acid (Tg = 376 K) and p-n-nonyloxybenzylidene-p-aminobenzoic acid (Tg = 203 K) 69). 

Two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy is a new tool for the spectroscopist in studying oriented molecules (B-79MI43501). Two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy has been applied to an ordered array of l-thia-3-selenole-2-thione in N- (p-methoxybenzylidene)-p- (n-butyl)aniline (80JMR(37)349). For oriented AB spectra, one-dimensional and two-dimensional spectra are not identical.

Thus good yields (> 60 per cent) are obtained with aniline and methyl, ethyl, n-propyl and n-butyl phosphates with a- and P-naphthylamine and methyl or ethyl phosphate nuclear substituted anilines and methyl or ethyl phosphate. 

The kinetic behaviour of anionic dyes on amide fibres tends to be much more closely related to molecular size and hydrophilic-lipophilic balance. Thus within a related series of dye structures it is possible to discern more specific relationships. For example, in the series of p-substituted aniline—>R acid dyes (3.91 R = H, methyl, n-butyl or n-dodecyl) the logarithm of the rate of dyeing on wool is inversely proportional to the molecular volume [110].

A further anomalous feature is that, apart from a slight deviation for A -n-propylaniline, the p values of the iV-alkylanilines increase progressively with chain length when measured in aqueous solution. In 75 vol % ethanol, however, 7V-n-butyl-, A -n-hexyl-, and A -n-octyl-aniline are reported as having equal pTiTa values which are appreciably less than the value for A-ethylaniline in the same solvent.
