In subsequent sections we provide brief information on batteries of various electrochemical systems. The major electrochemical features of each type will be pointed out. The relative discharge characteristics of batteries of the various systems are shown in Fig. 19.4 as a Ragone plot of w vs. p. For specific details of design and manufacturing technology, as well as for more details on performance and characterization, battery books and monographs should be consulted. [Pg.350]

The specification sheets are generally made out by experts who know from experience what is important and what is not. For the neophyte, the best sources of information come from books and monographs devoted to the design of a single item, material supplied by manufacturers and various testing and standards associations, and articles appearing in journals. A large amount of information is available. [Pg.355]

The publication of new text books and monographs reflects the health of a subject and so it is with great pleasure that I write this Foreword for the book, Theoretical and Experimental Sonochemistry Involving Inorganic Systems, Edited by Professors Pankaj and Ashokkumar. [Pg.410]

This book is meant to present in convenient form a readable account of the essentials of inorganic chemistry that can serve as both as a textbook for a one semester course upper level course and as a guide for self study. It is a textbook not a review of the literature or a research monograph. There are few references to the original literature, but many of the advanced books and monographs are cited. [Pg.862]

Many procedures that are used in zeolite catalyst and adsorbent manufacture are common to other manufactured products. The unit operahons and equipment that are used can therefore be found throughout the catalyst and adsorbent manufacturing industries. There are a number of books and monographs that outhne equipment and manufacturing procedures that are relevant to zeoHte catalysts and adsorbents [65-68]. [Pg.68]

While we promised in Chapter 2 that we would finally explain the details of aU these complicated reactors that are essential in the petroleum refinery, we will in fact not even try to do this because their details are actually much more complicated than can be considered in a simple or short fashion. (Many books and monographs have been written on each of these reactors.) Rather, we shall conclude by remarking that throughout this book we have considered all the principles by which one would describe the reactors in a petroleum refinery. [Pg.515]

He is the author of 63 books and monographs, 28 bulletins, 304 chapters in books, 615 journal articles, 309 abstracts, and 137 editorials, book reviews, and congressional testimonies. Cairns has been awarded a number of honors, including election to the National Academy of Sciences, the American Philosophical Society, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and the Linnean Society of London. He has been awarded the United Stations Environmental Programme Medal, the B. Y. Morrison Medal of the American Chemical Society, the Life Achievement Award in Science of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the Superior Achievement Award of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. [Pg.101]

The aim of this chapter is to introduce the reader to various aspects of the study of the origins of organic compounds in Nature, using as examples some natural products which possess heterocyclic functionality. As the field of biosynthesis is vast and well covered by numerous reviews, books and monographs, some of which are given in the references and the bibliography to this chapter (Section 1.04.7), it is not our intention to present an outline of the major biosynthetic pathways to heterocyclic natural products but instead to discuss a few selected pathways in some detail and in so doing to illustrate the current state of the art in biosynthesis. [Pg.83]

The applications of the gas chromatographic technique are many. To write chapters on the various areas of application would result in a very large monograph. The areas of application presented are those which the authors feel represent a happy medium resulting from the years of presenting the short course. Other areas of application have been covered in books and monographs currently available to the student of GC. [Pg.673]

Triflic acid has become a widely applied catalyst in various polymerization processes, and a few selected characteristic examples are discussed here. Additional basic information, examples of practical significance, and recent trends of cationic polymerization can be found in books and monographs.942 945... [Pg.745]

The purpose of this chapter is not to present again the material that is already available in a number of kinetics books and monographs.1 17 Instead, only a brief summary of the fundamentals will be given, followed by examples from the literature to demonstrate the scope, usefulness, and special features of a kinetic approach to reaction mechanisms. [Pg.367]

It is the goal of this book to present in one place the key features, methods, tools, and techniques of physical inorganic chemistry, to provide examples where this chemistry has produced a major contribution to multidisciplinary efforts, and to point out the possibilities and opportunities for the future. Despite the enormous importance and use of the more standard methods and techniques, those are not included here because books and monographs have already been dedicated specifically to instrumental analysis and laboratory techniques. The 10 chapters in this book cover inorganic and bioinorganic spectroscopy (Solomon and Bell), Mossbauer spectroscopy (Miinck and Martinho), magnetochemical methods (Kogerler), cryoradiolysis (Denisov), absolute chiral structures (Riehl and Kaizaki), flash photolysis and studies of transients (Ferraudi), activation volumes (van Eldik and Hubbard), chemical kinetics (Bakac), heavy atom isotope effects (Roth), and computational studies in mechanistic transition metal chemistry (Harvey). [Pg.529]

Numerous books and monographs published in the last decade are available to provide fundamental information on the method 3-17>. [Pg.50]

Discussions of errors associated with the technique of activation analysis in general may be found in many of the books and monographs referenced in the introduction to this paper. Interferences unique to 14 MeV neutron activation techniques have been reviewed by Mathur and Oldham 42> and a discussion of precision has been published by Mott and Orange 43>. [Pg.59]

To minimize these costs it is therefore necessary to maximize the conversion in the reactor and to avoid as far as possible inert substances in the reaction mixture. With irreversible reactions (e.g., partial oxidations) the trend is therefore towards a highly concentrated, approximately stoichiometric feed composition, which may occasionally be in the explosive range. The resulting problems are addressed in Sections 10.1.3.3 and 10.1.4.2) Since fixed-bed reactors constitute one of the most important classes of chemical reactors, much work has been devoted to their proper mathematical modeling as well as to the study of their stability, sensitivity and automatic control. The following standard text books and monographs can be recommended for further reference [1-4]. [Pg.426]

References cited at the end of each experiment and each of the general chapters have been updated. In cases where no new literature source could be found that covers a given topic as well as the source cited in the seventh edition, the original citation has been retained, since most libraries have available copies of older books and monographs. [Pg.757]

In each section, we have referenced several books, monographs, and review articles that provide in-depth coverage of the chemistry that is presented and give references to the primary literature for developments in the field that have taken place subsequent to the latest apphcable review article. We have focused on reviewing the primary synthetic routes and reactivity that appear in previously published books and monographs and providing the reader with more in-depth coverage of the latest developments. [Pg.249]

Bhopal is known as the city of the world s worst industrial disaster. That might be why the 20th anniversary of the Bhopal episode in 2004 was covered by news media all over the world. Commentaries appeared in Nature Medicine (Padma, 2005), Science (Crabb, 2004), The Lancet (Sharma, 2005) and other journals. By this time the story of MIC and Bhopal had been the subject of several books and monographs (Eckerman, 2005 Everest, 1985 Lapierre and Moro, 2001 Morehouse and Subramaniam, 1986 Sinha, 2007 Sufrin, 1985) and reviews (Bucher, 1987 Dhara and Dhara, 1995,2002 Dhara et al, 2002 Dhara and Gassert, 2002 Dhara and Kriebel, 1993 ICMR, 1985,1986,2004 Lepkowski, 1985 Marwick, 1985 Mehta et al, 1990 Sriramachari, 2004 Sriramachari and Chandra, 1997 Varma, 1986 Varma and Guest, 1993 Varma and Varma, 2005 Varma and Mulay, 2006). [Pg.293]

Since several excellent books and monographs are available on this subject 11, 12, 13, 14, 15), only a brief survey is presented here. The principal commercial uses of the sulfliydryl proteases are summarized in Table I. Although papain is used mainly for these purposes, ficin and bromelain also have been used with essentially the same results. [Pg.203]

The fundamentals of the magnetic properties of matter are presented in the classical work of Van Vleck and developed in numerous books and monographs. [Pg.106]
