Best practices protocols

Having recorded all of the physical data, the items to be examined chemically should be chosen. At the time of writing, there is no agreed best-practice protocol for undertaking this and the analyst should work within the requirements of the judicial system in which he/she is operating. The theory applied to powdered amphetamines can be equally applied to amphetamine tablets. The latter should be sampled and presumptive tests, TLC and confirmatory tests then carried out. 

But, as often happens in healthcare, the situation is even more complex than it at first appears. A doctor s knowledge of the latest procedure or new medication does not always benefit the patient. Each screening center has medicinal and synthetic chemistry expertise in order to optimize hits identified from HTS campaigns and develop them into chemical probes. Specific capabilities vary, however typical strategies employed include parallel synthesis, computational and informatics analysis, and analytical capabilities such as LC/MS techniques. The structures of novel compounds that are prepared, their synthetic protocols, analytical data and biological data are all available, and samples of final probes developed are deposited into the MLSMR. The analytical protocols used to characterize hazardous wastes are primarily the EPA-approved methodologies found in their publication Test Methods for the Evaluation of Solid Waste, Physical/Chemical Methods, SW-846. Because these methodologies are a part of the waste analysis plan and the feed-stream analysis plan, they are required by the facility s RCRA permit. In the case of the feedstream analysis plan and the LDRs, adherence is required to meet specific regulatory requirements. Occasionally, DuPont will analyze streams for hazardous constituents or properties other than those required under the permit or regulations in order to address a specific issue (e.g., to determine if the stream can be recycled). Analyses like these should be considered not as an industrial best practice but only as an internal planning aid.

An epidemic can initiate a panic, which is when humans do not always act in best interests. Best practice and compliance with workflow is essential for guiding the clinical support system. The workflow may involve several organizations and accountable individuals (performing a series of significant actions as one-person and multiple-person units), and workflows may differ in each unit. Compliance can be enforced when an IT system is there to coordinate the medical workflows. It can be used also to fine-tune the workflow protocol to the scenario type, depending on whether there is toxic or radioactive spillage, or infectious disease, and over a time course and geographical area in accord with an actual or a potential severity. 

One consequence was that considerable human and financial resources were wasted and fundamental knowledge denied. An overall lack of agreement on analytical protocols and best practice also bedeviled attempts to build on data produced in different laboratories. This is not to overly criticize the activities conducted, rather it represented the barriers to effective international cooperation and funding available. 

The final product should be well-documented and address hardware, networking capabilities, network and database security, and quality control. Protocols for daily and weekly back-ups are required. Daily back-ups onto tape or CDs should be stored in fire-resistant vaults on-site. Weekly off-site storage of back-up media is part of best practice.
