In the past year—to give you an example—the US has been flooded with small amphetamine tablets known as minibennies. Ballistics examination indicates that most of these tablets originate from three sets of punches and dies used on multiple punch tableting machines. To date, over 30 million minibennies have been purchased or seized. 

While Captagon tablets analyzed by UNODC in the early 1990s still contained fenethyline, Captagon tablets in later years contained typically amphetamine and caffeine, but not fenethyline. However, a number of other substances were found in some of the tablets, including quinine and theophyline. The Interpol data suggest that out of the total of 111.5 million tablets seized in 2006, 36 million were Captagon tablets and the rest were amphetamine tablets. 

To combat battle fatigue during World War II, nearly 200 million amphetamine tablets are issued to American soldiers stationed in Great Britain during the war. 

In 1970, pharmaceutical companies in the United States produced 12 million amphetamine tablets. That same year, the Senate and House of Representatives ratified the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act. The law restricted the access to highly addictive drugs like amphetamines.

Having recorded all of the physical data, the items to be examined chemically should be chosen. Amphetamines (speed sulph, sulphate, uppers, wake-ups, billy whizz, whizz, whites, base) are synthetic stimulants which as medicines have been formed into a variety of tablets. Street names for MDMA, besides ecstasy, include Adam, E, ecsta eve. Eve, H-bomb (with heroin), hug drug, love drug, M, pikachu (with PCP), psychedelic amphetamine, Versace, X, and XTC. Ecstasy tablets are often laced with other drugs such as LSD, amphetamine, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), and Rohypnol (Roofies). Lee is 19 and works for a sports equipment firm. From the age of 16 he had used cannabis, LSD, amphetamines and ecstasy, but he claimed that none of this use had been heavy. He would use amphetamine, orally, about once every two weeks, and he liked to have one ecstasy tablet if he went to a nightclub. More than half (57 %) of all seizure cases involved cannabis (herb, resin, oil, plants and seeds). EXTENSIONS AND COMMENTARY In the 1960 s there was quite a bit of interest in a couple of pharmaceutical houses with the indole analogues of amphetamine. Both the alpha-methylated tryptamine (this compound, a-MT) and the alpha-ethylated homologue (a-ET, see its separate recipe) were found to be effective monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and both were clinically studied as potential antidepressants. The ethyl compound became a commercial drug, offered by the Upjohn Company as Monase, but now is considered to be without medical use and is a Schedule I drug. It is interesting that this methyl compound, a-MT was also a medically available antidepressant in the Soviet Union in the 1960 s and was sold under the name of Indopan, in 5 and 10 milligram tablets.
