Amphetamine tablets

In the past year—to give you an example—the US has been flooded with small amphetamine tablets known as minibennies. Ballistics examination indicates that most of these tablets originate from three sets of punches and dies used on multiple punch tableting machines. To date, over 30 million minibennies have been purchased or seized. [Pg.203]

While Captagon tablets analyzed by UNODC in the early 1990s still contained fenethyline, Captagon tablets in later years contained typically amphetamine and caffeine, but not fenethyline. However, a number of other substances were found in some of the tablets, including quinine and theophyline. The Interpol data suggest that out of the total of 111.5 million tablets seized in 2006, 36 million were Captagon tablets and the rest were amphetamine tablets. [Pg.139]

To combat battle fatigue during World War II, nearly 200 million amphetamine tablets are issued to American soldiers stationed in Great Britain during the war. [Pg.17]

In 1970, pharmaceutical companies in the United States produced 12 million amphetamine tablets. That same year, the Senate and House of Representatives ratified the Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act. The law restricted the access to highly addictive drugs like amphetamines. [Pg.155]

Tucked away in the towering Sun Oil building in downtown Philadelphia are the small corporate headquarters of an obscure firm known as Paco Pharmaceuticals. Paco has only one line of business it packages roughly two-thirds of the amphetamine tablets sold in the United States, under contract from the old Quaker pharmaceuticals companies in the Philadelphia area, including Smith, Kline and French, Rohm and Haas, and Pennwalt. It publishes no annual report or other information concerning its activities, except for one crucial fact it is owned by Charterhouse Japhet, the present incarnation of the old Japhet family opium interests. Paco is also the source of most of... [Pg.344]

Having recorded all of the physical data, the items to be examined chemically should be chosen. At the time of writing, there is no agreed best-practice protocol for undertaking this and the analyst should work within the requirements of the judicial system in which he/she is operating. The theory applied to powdered amphetamines can be equally applied to amphetamine tablets. The latter should be sampled and presumptive tests, TLC and confirmatory tests then carried out. [Pg.17]

Heagy (1970) has developed a method by which three distinctive infrared spectra can be produced for d-, dl-, and /-amphetamine as the mandelate salts. The greatest differences in the spectra are found in the 800-600 cm region. The method has been used successfully on samples of illicit amphetamine tablets. [Pg.413]

Peyote is ingested fresh (as whole dried buttons) or as powder (loose in capsules or pressed into tablets). Mescaline sold on the street (see Table 6—2) is generally not what it is claimed to be but is most likely one of the following DOM, PCP, LSD, caffeine, or amphetamine-related stimulants (Kulberg... [Pg.224]

Legal nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, a number of sleeping tablets and tranquillizers. Illegal heroin, cocaine, crack, cannabis, amphetamine, crystal meth (methamphetamine). [Pg.128]

Amphetamines (speed sulph, sulphate, uppers, wake-ups, billy whizz, whizz, whites, base) are synthetic stimulants which as medicines have been formed into a variety of tablets. Their current medical use is very limited and in fact only dexamphetamine sulphate, Dexedrine, is now available for use solely in the treatment of narcolepsy. The only other amphetamine available for medical use is methylphenidate (Ritalin) for the treatment of attention deficit syndrome in children. As a street drug, amphetamine usually comes as a white, grey, yellowish or pinky powder. The purity rate of street powders is less than 10%, the rest being made up of milder stimulants such as caffeine, other drugs such as paracetamol or substances like glucose, dried baby milk, flour or talcum powder. [Pg.512]

AMPHETAMINE MIXTURES These mixtures contain various salts of amphetamine and dextroamphetamine. Refer to Administration and Dosage for Dextroamphetamine for information about immediate-release tablets. [Pg.826]

Cytochrome P450 inhibition Coadministration of delavirdine tablets with certain nonsedating antihistamines, sedative hypnotics, antiarrhythmics, calcium channel blockers, ergot alkaloid preparations, amphetamines, and cisapride may result in potentially serious or life-threatening adverse events caused by possible effects of delavirdine on the hepatic metabolism of certain drugs metabolized by CYP3A and... [Pg.1892]

Forensic analysis of street drugs include that of cocaine together with excipients frequently encountered (579), amphetamines 080), and dyes found in heroin samples 081). An on-line photochemical derivitization of cannabinoids has been described 082). Street names for MDMA, besides ecstasy, include Adam, E, ecsta eve. Eve, H-bomb (with heroin), hug drug, love drug, M, pikachu (with PCP), psychedelic amphetamine, Versace, X, and XTC. Tablets of ecstasy usually have imprinted monograms. Some examples include E-mail, D G, Rolex, Nike, Fred Flint-stone, Pokemon, Batman, and cupid. [Pg.97]

Ecstasy tablets are often laced with other drugs such as LSD, amphetamine, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB), and Rohypnol (Roofies). Some tablets are even named according to the drugs they contain. For instance, an H-Bomb refers to Ecstasy mixed with heroin. More often than not, the user is not even aware that the... [Pg.36]

Lee is 19 and works for a sports equipment firm. From the age of 16 he had used cannabis, LSD, amphetamines and ecstasy, but he claimed that none of this use had been heavy. He would use amphetamine, orally, about once every two weeks, and he liked to have one ecstasy tablet if he went to a nightclub. Ecstasy is the drug he would most want to continue, although he has been made aware of the risks. He has always kept himself fit, and sees recreational drug use as a normal thing for his generation. [Pg.63]

More than half (57 %) of all seizure cases involved cannabis (herb, resin, oil, plants and seeds). Opiates (opium, morphine, heroin, synthetic opiates and poppy seeds), accounted for 17 per cent, with heroin alone accounting for 14 per cent of the total. This is followed by seizures of the amphetamine-type stimulants (12 %). About half of these seizures (or 5.5 % of the total) is accounted for by methamphetamine, followed by amphetamine (2.5 %) and ecstasy (2%) the rest (2 %) includes Captagon tablets (Near East) and Maxiton Forte (Egypt), ephedrone (methcathinone) and various undefined amphetamines. Coca products account for 9 percent of global seizure cases the bulk of coca related seizure cases concern cocaine (8 % of total). [Pg.26]

The proportion of West and Central Europe would fall further if the ATS tablet seizures of Saudi Arabia (111.5 million tablets reported by ICPO/INTERPOL) were included on the basis that such tablets typically contain amphetamine.9... [Pg.139]

EXTENSIONS AND COMMENTARY In the 1960 s there was quite a bit of interest in a couple of pharmaceutical houses with the indole analogues of amphetamine. Both the alpha-methylated tryptamine (this compound, a-MT) and the alpha-ethylated homologue (a-ET, see its separate recipe) were found to be effective monoamine oxidase inhibitors, and both were clinically studied as potential antidepressants. The ethyl compound became a commercial drug, offered by the Upjohn Company as Monase, but now is considered to be without medical use and is a Schedule I drug. It is interesting that this methyl compound, a-MT was also a medically available antidepressant in the Soviet Union in the 1960 s and was sold under the name of Indopan, in 5 and 10 milligram tablets. [Pg.237]
