Soft-tissue tumors benign

The perineurial cells in neurofibroma contain EMA, which may be detected immunohistochemically in a small population of cells in these tumors. EMA may also be of some value in the diagnosis of nerve sheath myxoma because of the existence of perineurial elements around most tumor lobules. Nerve sheath neoplasms are occasionally labeled by antibodies to GFAP, as are 50% of soft tissue myoepitheliomas, whereas other benign soft tissue tumors are not. Myelin basic protein may also be of some value in the diagnosis of schwann-ian tumors, although there has been some disagreement in the literature on this point. [Pg.98]

Deep-seated hemangiomas are common benign soft-tissue tumors which often arise within muscles. They predominantly involve the large muscles of the thigh and maybe painful if the affected muscle is narrow and long, probably through stretching of... [Pg.64]

As was the case with the tumor entities listed above, the oxygenation of soft tissue sarcomas (STS) was significantly lower than that of the skeletal muscle (Vaupel et al. 1998 see Fig. 4.10 Nordsmark et al. 1994) or of benign tumors (e.g., lipomas, schwannomas Bentzen et al. 2003). Tumor oxygenation was markedly het-... [Pg.68]

Further causes of airway narrowing are neoplastic lesions. They can exhibit a predilection for the one of the three compartments lumen, wall, or surrounding soft tissue. For the trachea, 90% of the primary tumors in adults are malignant, mainly squamous cell carcinoma (55%) or adenoid cystic carcinoma (18-40%). Only 10% are benign neoplasms such as papiUoma, true mucinous adenoma, hamartoma, fibroma, chondroma, leiomyoma, and granular ceU myoblastoma. In the bronchi non-small cell lung cancer prevails (Marom et al.2001). [Pg.379]

Both solid and cystic masses can be encountered in the soft tissues of the elbow as incidental findings. Most are benign andhave an indolent behavior, such as lipomas, ganglia and neural tumors, and can be easily diagnosed with US based on previously... [Pg.404]
