Having waded through the above account of calculation of results for rings together with the detail given in the references, it is not surprising that the majority of people opt for dumb-bell test pieces. [Pg.146]

A particular form of recovery test developed as a measure of low temperature behaviour is the so-called temperature-retraction test (TR test) which is standardised internationally as ISO 292113. The test consists of stretching a dumb-bell test piece, placing it in the stretched condition in a... [Pg.291]

Two HDPEs showing different ESC behaviour were kindly supplied by Polimeri Europa SpA (Italy). ESC testing results on notched samples (Bell test) together with some other general physical and mechanical properties are given in Table 1. [Pg.105]

In the usual tests on stress crack resistance (see Sect. 5.3.2), e.g. the pin impression test EN ISO 4600 1998 Plastics - Determination of Environmental Stress Cracking (ESC) - Ball or Pin Impression Method, or in the so-called bend strip test or Bell-test as per ASTM D1693-97a Standard Test Method for Environmental Stress-Cracking of Ethylene Plastics, no failure of HDPE geomembranes is observed under the test conditions required by the standards. These index tests therefore cannot be used for the assessment of stress crack resistance of plastic geomembranes. The requirements are simply too low. [Pg.88]

For presentation in this paper a Hall probe of a Gaussmeter (Bell, Series 9900) is used to test the function of the sensor combination. It determined the magnetic flux B . [Pg.369]

So, a comparison of different types of magnetic field sensors is possible by using the impulse response function. High amplitude and small width of this bell-formed function represent a high local resolution and a high signal-to-noise-characteristic of a sensor system. On the other hand the impulse response can be used for calculation of an unknown output. In a next step it will be shown a solution of an inverse eddy-current testing problem. [Pg.372]

Juilliard. And most significantly, he met Frances Brown, an activity director at the International House at Columbia University, whom he married in May 1941. The couple had four daughters. His work at Bell Labs had one downside—it often took him away from his family for trips to Florida where the radar bombing system was tested and re-tested. [Pg.1143]

The first group of tests is carried out on specimens generally fabricated into a dumb-bell shape, with forces applied uniaxially. The usual apparatus consists of a machine with a pair of jaws, which during the test are moved relative to each other, either together or apart, in a controlled manner. A chart recorder is employed to give a permanent record of the results obtained, so that the force at fracture can be determined. Whether this kind of set up measures tensile, compressive, or flexural strength depends on how the sample is oriented between the jaws, and on the direction that the jaws are set to travel relative to one another. [Pg.115]

Apples (Red Belle de Boskoop, Jonagold or Mutzu) were cut and milled (1.5 mm) and 5% (w/w) of a 2% ascorbic acid solution was added immediately. Enzyme preparations (25 mg enzyme protein / kg mash) were added and the mash was incubated for 2 hours at 20°C whereafter it was pressed. The resulting apple juice was pasteurised at 85°C to discontinue further enzyme degradation. The cloud was measured as turbidity in EF/F units [15]. The cloud stability was determined by a centrifugation test as the amount of turbidity remaining after centrifugation at 4,200 x g for 15 minutes [15]. [Pg.465]

Several combinations of pectinolytic and cellulytic enzymes were tested for their ability to give a cloudy apple juice of Belle de Boskoop apples. Selected results are shown in table I. [Pg.466]

Obviously, use of such databases often fails in case of interaction between additives. As an example we mention additive/antistat interaction in PP, as observed by Dieckmann et al. [166], In this case analysis and performance data demonstrate chemical interaction between glycerol esters and acid neutralisers. This phenomenon is pronounced when the additive is a strong base, like synthetic hydrotalcite, or a metal carboxylate. Similar problems may arise after ageing of a polymer. A common request in a technical support analytical laboratory is to analyse the additives in a sample that has prematurely failed in an exposure test, when at best an unexposed control sample is available. Under some circumstances, heat or light exposure may have transformed the additive into other products. Reaction product identification then usually requires a general library of their spectroscopic or mass spectrometric profiles. For example, Bell et al. [167] have focused attention on the degradation of light stabilisers and antioxidants... [Pg.21]

Detailed information on multiple residues in different foods is reported each year in an appendix table in the PDP summary report entitled Number of pesticides detected per sample . For example, Appendix K in the 2004 PDP report reports that almost 11% of the 12,446 samples tested contained four or more residues, while over 12% of the sweet bell peppers tested contained seven or more residues. [Pg.269]

For iron catalysts in general, the incorporation of 1-alkenes is negligible, and that of ethene is much lower than that of cobalt.1617 Therefore, for all published carbon number distributions for iron catalysts, a strict representation by two superimposed ASF distributions is obtained. Examples are given by Schliebs and Gaube,7 Dictor and Bell,8 and Huff and Satterfield.10 Also, the old experiments of the Schwarzheide tests are well represented by this model.7... [Pg.202]

First, there was the call from Washington. Although the line was not busy, there was a cacophony of excited voices as if tests were being made on Bell s first telephone. Too bad, I thought, that Farben s technical men hadn t gotten into this field I hung up to wait for a better connection. [Pg.68]
