The Du Pont HaskeU Laboratory for Toxicology and Industrial Medicine has conducted a study to determine the acute inhalation toxicity of fumes evolved from Tefzel fluoropolymers when heated at elevated temperatures. Rats were exposed to decomposition products of Tefzel for 4 h at various temperatures. The approximate lethal temperature (ALT) for Tefzel resins was deterrnined to be 335—350°C. AH rats survived exposure to pyrolysis products from Tefzel heated to 300°C for this time period. At the ALT level, death was from pulmonary edema carbon monoxide poisoning was probably a contributing factor. Hydrolyzable fluoride was present in the pyrolysis products, with concentration dependent on temperature. 

Enzymes, measured in clinical laboratories, for which kits are available include y-glutamyl transferase (GGT), alanine transferase [9000-86-6] (ALT), aldolase, a-amylase [9000-90-2] aspartate aminotransferase [9000-97-9], creatine kinase and its isoenzymes, galactose-l-phosphate uridyl transferase, Hpase, malate dehydrogenase [9001 -64-3], 5 -nucleotidase, phosphohexose isomerase, and pymvate kinase [9001-59-6]. It is apparent that replacement names can be formed for rings of alt sizes, and the rules for forming them are simple. On the other hand, the names are usually quite long, and as a consequence, chemists more often than not avoid such names in favor of recognized trivial names or Hantzsch-Widman names for ring sizes for which they are available.
