Evolution in telescope making since the Palomar has not been limited to the area of optical production. The alt-azimuthal mount has become the established solution since the Bolshoi 6 m telescope, for its superior mechanical performance and the compact, cost-efficient enclosure design it allows. Better understanding of the properties of atmospheric turbulence allowed a more accurate characterization of a telescope properties, a more balanced approach towards specifications and error budgeting and a better understanding of the utmost importance of site selection. Any ground-based telescope of appreciable size will be primarily limited by the effect of atmospheric turbulence, not to mention the proportion of photometric nights allowed by weather conditions. 

Worldwide, 15 million HBsAg carriers are also infected with hepatitis D/delta virus (HDV) (Gaeta et al. 2000). This situation represents a major therapentic challenge, as most of these patients have advanced liver disease, inclnding cirrhosis in 60-70% of cases, and hepatocellular carcinoma (Fattovich et al. 2000 Saracco et al. 1987). No specific HDV inhibitors have been developed, and IFN-a-based treatment is more difficnlt in HBV-HDV infection than in HBV monoinfection. HDV RNA levels in sernm can be nsed to monitor treatment efficacy. The endpoint of therapy is HDV RNA clearance and ALT normalization, and this is sometimes achieved after the end of treatment. A snstained response can lead to HBsAg clearance from serum.

The MRL was based on a NOAEL of 26 mg/kg/day in the drinking water for 4 days for hepatic effects in mice (Larson et al. 1994b). The NOAEL of 26.4 mg/kg/day was divided by an uncertainty factor of 100 (10 for extrapolation from animals to humans and 10 for human variability) to arrive at the MRL of 0.3 mg/kg/day. A study performed by Moore et al. (1982) found renal effects in CFLP Swiss mice dosed at 65.5 mg/kg/day by gavage in oil. Another study by Larson et al. (1993) found both hepatic (elevated SDH, ALT and AST, hepatocyte necrosis) and renal (proximal tubule necrosis) lesions in Fischer 344 rats and hepatic lesions only in B6C3Fj mice induced by chloroform administered at 34 mg/kg/day once by gavage in oil. Lesions in the Larson et al. (1993) study were ranked as less serious LOAELs.

Synthetic Zeolites. Many new cry stalliue zeolites have been. synthesized and several fulfill important functions in the chemical and petroleum industries and in consumer products such as detergents. The structural formula of a zeolite is based on the crystal unit cell, the smallest unit of structure, represented by At, ((Alt), >, (SiO i t/ H 0. where n is the valence of cation M. ir is the number of water molecules per unit cell, v and r are. respectively, the number of AlOa and SiOj tetrahedra per unit cell, and y/v usually has values of 1-5. Examples of important synthetic zeolites are shown in Table I. 

Removal of a few base pairs at V(D)J junctions occurs frequently. An early suggestion to account for this truncation was that an exonuclease trims the coding ends before they are joined (Alt and Baltimore, 1982), but the enzyme responsible has not yet been identified. Lewis (1994a) has pointed out that it is even possible that trimming results from endonucleolytic rather than exonucleolytic activity. The imprecision in junctional joining, as well as the removal or addition of bases not... 

A recent addition to this field is the polymer-supported di(2-pyridyl)-methylamine-palladium dichloride complex covalently attached to a styrene-alt-maleic acid anhydride copolymer. Turnover numbers as high as 105 were reported and a couple of microwave-heated Suzuki-Miyaura reactions could be performed in neat water [134], 2-Pyridinealdoxime-based Pd(II)-...
